#228 (6/10) - Sunday Special - List #2 of Stan's Picks for Summer Reading AND Viewing

Please be sure to watch today's broadcast of "Truth That Transforms" (in Orlando, 5 pm., ch. 55.1) or watch it at www.TruthInAction.org.]
----------------------------------------------------------------
[NOTE: The following is my SECOND list of recommended reading. Check yesterday’s post #223 for my first list. These are ALL great reads, ALL of which I was able to borrow from my public library except for one. And note that I never read any fiction books with horror in them, because I get enough REAL LIFE horror reading most books on public policy. And once again, if you only have time for reading ONE book this year, I again urge you to buy AND read “Indivisible” which I speak of in my first list. ALSO, at the end, I’ve recommended 2 excellent family films. I strongly suggest you (and all the men you know) watch “COURAGEOUS” especially in lieu of next week Sunday being Father’s Day.– Stan]

PUBLIC POLICY

Crimes Against LibertyDavid Limbaugh About 400 of the 500 pages of this book deal with item after item of the dangerous policies that President Obama initiated in just the first year and a half of his Presidency. And the remaining 100 pages are a detailed listing of the author’s sources. Written by a lawyer like a prosecuting attorney would in filing an indictment, this is an incredible read.

The Great Destroyer – David Limbaugh Just released, this is the follow-up of the above book, 400 pages that speaks of the destructive policies of President Obama that covers the remaining years of his term.

The Terrorist Next Door – Eric Stackelback (CBN News) This is an incredible analysis of the home-grown terrorist already in America. It’s the story you hear little about until one of these terrorists strikes. It asks the crucial question of how well we are addressing the Islamic (not Buddhist, Hindu, or Christian) terrorist threat at our very doorsteps.

BIOGRAPHY:

Ronald Reagan – How an Ordinary Man Became an Extraordinary Leader –Dinesh D'Souza Of the books I have read about our late President, this one offers an excellent look at the leadership traits he had that made him so successful. This book also gives an honest look at the President’s weaknesses and tries to answer the many attacks by his critics.

Through My Eyes – Tim Tebow You really don’t have to be a Gator fan to appreciate how Tim’s faith has been a guiding point in his life, as this book clearly points out. This autobiography of his steadfast faith is an inspiration to read.

ANIMAL BOOKS:

Cold Noses At the Pearly Gates – Gary Kurz This pastor has written the best book I have come across that makes a Biblical case for our pets being welcomed into Heaven. If you have any doubts about that, you really need to check out this book, even if you choose to ignore his Scripture- supported arguments.

Dewey: the Small Town Cat Who Touched the World– Vicki Myron If you have a pet or especially if you are a cat lover like I am, you will love this great true story. An extra is the insights it sheds on life in a small Iowa town that most of us “big city” folks know very little about.

Dewey’s Nine Lives – Vicki Myron This volume contains inspiring, funny, and heartwarming stories about cats told from the perspective of Dewey's Mom, librarian Myron

FICTION:

The Shack – William Paul Young No, this is not a biography of the basketball player (:. They say that this is a modern day version of Paul Bunyan’s “The Pilgrim’s Progress.” I have never read that book but this one, though it took a little while to get into, really gives great spiritual insights. A great read.

Dark Horse: A Political Thriller; The Confirmation – Ralph Reed Though stories of fiction, these 2 novels give insight into what modern day politics is like. It leaves you wondering how much of the stories were really fictitious.

DVD Movies

Courageous – This is my pick for one of the Best Pictures I’ve ever seen. A movie with a great story, actors, and inspiring theme that are what motion pictures should be while they are entertaining you. And to think this movie was made by the same church in Albany, Georgia, that brought you “Facing the Giants” (looking at sports as more than just an athletic contest) and “Fireproof” (about Christian marriage). Please don’t miss this one!

Letters To God – “Eight-year-old Tyler is armed with strong faith and courage as he faces a battle against cancer. His prayers take the form of letters he sends to his ultimate pen pal, God, on a daily basis. [This movie].. is a testament to the power of Tyler's shining spirit, bravery, and grace.” A great movie to watch with children as well as adults.
