Syria’s Fighting Spills into Lebanon, Five Dead - Saturday, July 07, 2012

"Syria’s conflict spilled further into Lebanon on Saturday when mortar fire from President Bashar al-Assad’s forces hit villages in the north, killing five people after rebels crossed the border to seek refuge, residents said."

"Rebels fighting to unseat Assad have used north Lebanon as a base and his forces have at times bombed villages and even pursued insurgents over the border, threatening to stoke tension in Lebanon, whose sectarian rifts mirror those in Syria."

"Syria’s bloodshed has also encroached on Turkey, a much bigger, more powerful neighbor that once backed Assad but turned against him over his violent repression of unrest." (Source: Reuters)

As the Lord leads, please pray:
•About the Syrian conflict spilling to Lebanon and Turkey.
•For one of the UN peace plans to take hold among the Syrian rebels and the Assad regime.

Pennsylvania Mayor Declares Across-the-Board Minimum Wage for City Workers - Tuesday, July 10, 2012

"Employees of a Pennsylvania city, who have all seen their salaries cut to minimum wage as the Mayor grapples with budget problems, are hoping a judge restores their paychecks in full."

"Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty cut everyone’s pay -- including his own -- on Friday, saying the state’s sixth-largest city is broke because the City Council blocked his proposed tax increase. Doherty, a Democrat, warned nearly 400 police officers, firefighters and public works employees about his doomsday plan, prompting a Lackawanna County judge to order the city to pay full wages to all employees, citing that it is a violation of their contracts. Hours later, the payday envelopes went out, and, despite the judge’s order, they were light." (Source: Fox News, Associated Press)

As the Lord leads, please pray:
•For the employees of Scranton who are facing extreme salary cuts.
•For the city councils and mayors across the nation who have to deal with decreased revenue and balanced budgets.[Several cities in California have already declared themselves bankrupt.]

World Economic Sentiment Gloomy (Thursday, July 12, 2012)

"... economists said that since then the global economic outlook has become even more worrisome as many indicators of economic activity have deteriorated in recent months.'Americans are twice as likely to say their family finances are in good shape as they are to say that the national economic situation is good,' Pew said in the report. 'There are larger differences in Britain and Japan, where those who rate their personal economic situation as good exceed the number who have positive views of the national economy by more than four-to-one. Only the Chinese are significantly more likely to say the national economy is doing better than their families’ finances.'" (Source: CBS News, Associated Press)

As the Lord leads, please pray:
•About the global economy and the influences on the financial situation of the United States.
For families who are struggling with unemployment, budget strains and debt loads.

"Rice Buzz Dominates Washington"(Friday, July 13, 2012)

Political observers are asking whether Mitt Romney could pick Condoleezza Rice as his running mate a day after a story on the Drudge Report said she has emerged as the front-runner.

"Strategists acknowledge picking the former Bush administration secretary of State would be a bold, unconventional choice that could broaden support for Romney among independents...Picking an African-American woman could help Romney narrow the gap with President Obama among women and African-Americans, and Rice would bring foreign policy credentials to the ticket. Most importantly, she’d bring excitement and flair - she’s considered a star by grassroots conservatives."(Sources: The Hill, Politico, New York Times, Drudge Report)

As the Lord leads, please pray:
•For wisdom for Governor Romney and his advisers as they "vet" and determine the best candidate for his vice presidential ticket.
•For Dr. Rice as she may be contemplating appearing on the ticket with Governor Romney.
