#2832 (10/'31) "Honoring the Witnesses - ALL SAINTS DAY"

"Honoring the Witnesses - ALL SAINTS DAY" - by Chuck Colson| and John Stonesteet; Breakpoint.org: October 31, 2019;
http://www.breakpoint.org/2019/10/honoring-the-witnesses-3\[AS  I SEE IT: While I have never welcomed Trick or Treaters because I have never been convinced to recognize Halloween, I did wear a Batman t-shirt over my work uniform the last time I worked at my present job on Halloween 2 years ago. I was prepared to do so again today, but then the other day I cam across an article in which a former Satanist was interviewed.
[https://www1.cbn.com/cbnnews/us/2019/october/show-the-redemption-of-jesus-christ-do-altar-call-former-devil-worshipper-encourages-churches-not-to-celebrate-but-evangelize-on-halloween]  In the aricle he makes the following statement: "'I don't care if you're dressing your children up like Noah or Abraham, you're changing their identity because it is the string that ties you to the enemy that you're celebrating somehow, some form. Maybe not directly, but indirectly you're celebrating something that is so demonic that you can't put your finger on it,' Ramirez explained." I  have since decided that even wearing a Batman T-shirt was in some way recognizing this Satanic event and thus will not wear the t-shirt to work tonight. - Stan]
Like an Autumn ritual, leaves start turning, the air turns chilly, and Christians argue over whether or not to celebrate Halloween. I’ve never been a huge fan of the dark, sketchy costumes (and I’m talking about what the adults wear), but there’s a whole history to this day, and especially tomorrow, All Saints’ Day. Back in 2007, Chuck Colson described the history behind this holiday, including its Christian roots. Here’s Chuck Colson, in a BreakPoint titled, “Honoring the Witnesses.” ...

It is Halloween again, and to be frank, I really don’t look forward to talking about it on “BreakPoint” every year. At best, Halloween has become an excuse to ask total strangers for candy. At worst, it's a celebration of the mindless paganism our ancestors wisely turned their backs on. So this year, I'd like to turn your attention to the often-overlooked celebration that Halloween calls to mind. In case you've missed it before, the name Halloween is a shortening of All Hallow’s Eve and signifies the night before All Saints’ Day.

For centuries on All Saints’ Day the Church celebrated the lives of Christians who went before us. And rightly so: We can learn so much from those whom the author of Hebrews calls that great cloud of witnesses. The tradition of remembering the Church triumphant dates back to the time of the first Christian martyrs. When soldiers of Marcus Aurelius Verus came to arrest Polycarp, a beloved church leader, Polycarp greeted them kindly. According to the third century historian Eusebius, Polycarp “ordered a table to be laid for them immediately, invited them to eat as much as they liked, asking in return a single hour in which he could pray.

When Polycarp later stood in the coliseum, accused and surrounded by the jeering crowds, the governor pressed him to recant his faith. Instead, this man, who himself had been discipled by the Apostle John, said this: “For eighty-six years, I have been [Christ’s] servant, and He has never done me wrong: How can I blaspheme my King who saved me?” As they were preparing to burn him alive, Polycarp offered up prayers of faith and praise.

In the years following Polycarp’s death, Christians would gather annually to take communion beside his grave. There they would remember his brave witness and take courage from his example. As the years passed, the day shifted in focusing from remembering Polycarp to honoring all martyrs. By the seventh century, the Church created a holiday to honor all of God’s saints—heroes of the faith.

One of my favorite heroes was a woman named Monica, who lived during the fourth century. She would never face flames or jeering crowds, as did Polycarp, but she did face testing. That testing came in the form of her own longing for the return of her prodigal son, Augustine. His licentious lifestyle made this Christian mother weep. Later, when Augustine, who is now known as one of the foremost theologians of Christianity and scholars of Western civilization, did come to Christ, he wrote this prayer: “My mother, Your faithful servant, wept to You for me, shedding more tears for my spiritual death than others shed for the bodily death of a son. You heard her.”

I could tell you story after story like this, from Justin Martyr to Martin Luther to Amy Carmichael. But let me encourage you to do something this All Saints’ Day. Take the lead in your church to honor the great saints who set examples for us. Reacquaint your children with Halloween’s Christian origins. Research together and talk about the lives of Christian heroes.

Sure, go ahead and let the kids dress up like Batman and hit up your neighbors for candy. [ I respectfully disagree with this. - Stan] But when the hoopla of modern Halloween is over, encourage your kids to imitate some real heroes—not in what they put on, but in how they live their lives.

"SOME MORAL REFLECTONS ON THE DEATH OF ABU BAKAR AL-BAGHDADI"Michael Brown, Oct 29, 2019;
https://townhall.com/columnists/michaelbrown/2019/10/29/some-moral-reflections-on-the-death-of-abu-bakr-albaghdadi-n2555493 [AS I SEE IT: This article is a great reminder of our need to be praying for even the most evil among us, as every human being is someone Christ died for no matter how grave their sins. That is why I have prayed every day by name for some of the worst world leaders to come to Christ.- Stan]
Source: Militant video via AP, File

I will leave it to others to reflect on the political and strategic implications of the killing of the ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. And enough has been said to ridicule the disastrous “austere scholar” headline of the Washington Post. Allow me instead to offer some moral reflections on America putting this monstrous terrorist to death.

First, there really is such a thing as good and evil. ISIS is and was evil. Al-Baghdadi was evil, just as Hitler was evil.Terrorism is evil. Murder and rape and are evil. Selling human beings into sex slavery is evil. Merchandizing aborted baby parts is evil. Conversely, it is good to confront evil and to judge evil. And it was good to take out al-Baghdadi.
To be sure, there is more than enough moral ambiguity in our society, and many “good” causes become compromised by ulterior motives and human corruption. As for life on earth, none of us are perfectly good (outside of Jesus; see Matthew 7:11), and even the evilest person has some good quality, having been created in God’s image. Yet there is no denying that some people are downright wicked, and either in this world or the world to come, they will certainly pay for their sins.

Second, God has given authority to governments and rulers to punish evil with the sword. In the words of Paul, “For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer” (Romans 13:4-5). Yes, governments, by the will of God, “bear the sword,” but for good, not for evil. It is therefore a terrible abuse of God-given authority when a government or king or president or leader uses the sword to promote evil and to suppress good. What a serious offense.
But, to repeat, God does give the sword to governments and leaders. And without that “sword” – which includes both the local police and the national army -- there will be chaos in the streets. And so, just as a mother or father uses “force” on a certain level (such as grounding a rebellious teenager or spanking a rebellious toddler), the government uses force on another level. That’s how the Allies defeated the murderous designs of Adolph Hitler. It was by a united show of force. Tragically, innocent people will die in the process, which is why much care must be used in the exercise of such force. But without the force of a righteous “sword,” many more innocent people will die.

Third, while it is easy to identify the evil of al-Baghdadi and ISIS, we must always remember that evil lurks near all of us. Put another way, the Islamic terrorists of ISIS were fellow-human beings, not beings from another planet. Some of them were husbands who loved their wives and fathers who loved children. Yet these same men committed acts of unspeakable savagery, seemingly with glee. It’s the same with people who have been guilty of horrific acts of human cruelty through the millennia. They, too, were fellow-human beings. They were cut out of the same cloth you and I were. They had to make moral choices just as we do. And, over time, they chose to suppress the voice of conscience and harden their hearts until they could murder little children and slice open pregnant women without the slightest feeling of guilt.
Obviously, most of us will never commit such grotesquely evil acts. Yet all of us, on one level or another, are capable of doing evil. And all of us, in one way or another, are guilty of thinking ugly and sinful thoughts.
If you’re reading this saying, “Not me! I’m really a very good person,” let me ask you this: How would you feel if we posted in real time for the world to see all your secret thoughts? How much pride is there? Lust? Greed? Hatred? Anger? Violence? Bitterness? Judgmentalism?
Recognizing this does not minimize our recognition of unrepentant, bold-faced evil, as in the actions of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Nor does it minimize the rightness of doing our best to eradicate such evil, thereby saving many lives. But it does mean that we always do well to search our own hearts, recognizing that every day, we are either hardening or softening our hearts. Why let evil of any kind infiltrate your mind and soul? Why allow any pollution to stain and defile you?

Finally, there’s a fourth reflection, but one that is too late for al-Baghdadi. Simply stated, redemption is possible. Serial killers can be saved. Terrorists can be transformed. I know such people personally. Some are in jail, paying for their crimes. Others are now paying back the society they once ravaged.
But in Jesus, through the gospel, dramatic and radical change can come. And so, while the government goes about its work of carrying the sword, let us go about our work of carrying the message of redemption. Better a redeemed, forgiven, repentant, and transformed terrorist than a dead terrorist.

“INTERCESSORS ARE THE RUDDER” – A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT - Wanda Alger, June 28th, 2017; https://www.getamericapraying.com/blog/I was recently given a word by my good friend, Bill Yount. His word greatly encouraged me as an intercessor. Working for Intercessors for America, I soon realized it was not just a word for me, but for all who have been praying for our nation, wondering if their prayers are truly making any difference. Bill told me, “I kept seeing you as a small rudder on a huge ship. Hidden, but giving guidance. Although it seemed slow it was turning the whole ship. Patience was needed to see the impact of your…ministry. I sense the Lord saying, ‘Don’t jump ship! I’ve made you the rudder!’ ” I was immediately touched in my spirit by this encouragement, knowing that our seemingly small place in prayer was having a great impact.
James 3:4 talks about the power of a small rudder to steer a large ship. In this scripture about the power of our tongue, consider the power of prophetic intercession! In the Forerunner Commentary on this verse we read, “…rudders manipulate the course of immense ocean vessels with a slight movement of a pilot’s hand. Since it is underwater and aft, the rudder of a ship does its work UNSEEN. A passenger is ignorant of its movements most of the time. Yet, when it is in proper working order, the rudder holds more power over the ship than the wind. The wind will blow, toss, even destroy the ship’s rigging, but the rudder guides the ship exactly where it directs.”
This is God’s promise to the intercessors in this hour of national turbulence. Don’t stop praying! Your prayers have great power to turn the ship! Continue praying, interceding, and discerning the workings and movements of the Holy Spirit, being faithful to God’s commands. As we come together to declare God’s faithfulness, this nation will, once again, head in the direction that God intends. Don’t give up and don’t give in. Regardless of the winds of adversity and the fires of the enemy, God’s people have a power that cannot be matched. Let us join in faith and continue to pray and speak of God’s faithfulness in order to bring God’s people and this nation into the fullness of God’s plans. Note this additional encouragement from God’s word:
Colossians 2:15 – “He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him” (ESV).
Psalm 33:8-11 – “Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. The Lord foils the plans of the nations; He thwarts the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.”

PRAY FOR AMERICA: THANK GOD for His many blessings on America throughout it's history. May we then ask that AMERICA once again be a blessing TO GOD, by once again submitting to HIS will in our affairs - both personal and national - that He may truly "heal our land." (2 Chron. 7:14) Short of that, we should not be saying "God Bless America"but instead "God be merciful towards America!"
PRAY FOR OUR LEADERS 1) Pray for President Trump and his advisers, that they would select Godly leaders at the federal level who will be accountable to do an excellent job (or be fired!) ; that he would seek God's wisdom and be enabled to lead our country effectively in the years ahead; and 2) Pray our leaders at every level of government will Spirit-filled, leading us with Godly wisdom and integrity; that they will  only pass legislation and enact policies that will benefit Americans today as well as future generations and NOT do any lasting harm.
SUPREME COURT: PRAY that the justices will only hand down decisions that are Constitutionally sound and in the best interests of our country now and for future generations.

World-Wide Prayer Requests:

PRAISE GOD for the continuing recent successes against ISIS! P
ray that coalition forces will be able to  fully destroy the leadership and infrastructure of ISIS.
*For believers in Syria and in this region as they navigate so much uncertainty. May they remain faithful to God through these most difficult times as He sustains them with peace and His Spirit's strength.

STANDING STRONG THROUGH THE STORM - OpenDoorsUSA.org
At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them.- 2 Tim. 4:16
SPEAK ON BEHALF OF THOSE WHO SUFFER
The Apostle Paul knew exactly what it was like to be alone, to be deserted by all who called themselves “brothers” and “sisters.” A former colleague who has done considerable travel among the persecuted says, “It is hard to believe that Christians are the largest persecuted group in the world today. But it is even more difficult to believe that this is so seldom mentioned in our gatherings and church services. More Christians know the names of their favorite actors than their fellow believers who are in prison.”
He continues, “With every trip something in my heart breaks as I hear the echoes of suffering:
I remember the echoes of an Egyptian mother as she shared how her young boy was stuck in a haystack because she refused to deny Jesus.
I remember the sounds of weeping as fellow students in Indonesia shared how Sariman, their co-student, was hacked to death.
I remember the cries of anguish as we walked from church to church that was burned to the ground on the island of Lombok.
I remember the tears of Rebecca in Iran as she showed the picture of her father who was stabbed to death for sharing the gospel.
I remember the voice of Pastor Daniel in Vietnam as he shared how he was chained to the ground for six months.
I remember the fear of Grace from Sudan as she shared how her church was attacked and her friend was shot through the head.
Oh, I remember the cries of Caleb in Eritrea as he shared with tears how two dear friends were executed in front of him because of their faith.
And I remember the tears of Joy in the southern Philippines as she shared how her fiancé was shot to death in their church in Mindanao.
But, most all, I remember the deafening sounds of silence every time I return home.
RESPONSE
How can I be silent today? How can I not speak on behalf of those who suffer? How can I desert those that belong to the same body that I belong to and who desperately need the encouragement of my intervention?

#2830 (10/29) "Under Trump, No Margin for Terror"

"UNDER TRUMP, NO MARGIN FOR TERROR"
By Tony Perkins, Washington Update, October 28, 2019;
https://www.frc.org/updatearticle/20191028/margin-terror [AS I SEE IT: 1) It's laughable that none of the Democratic presidential candidates could give praise to President Trump for this clearly non-partisan action but instead simply praised the military. A member of the complicit mainstream media has followed suit by calling the terrorist leader "an austere religious scholar;" please, give me a break!, and 2) I doubt whether the media will mention that one of the victims of this terrorist was a Christian [Kayla] who was there solely to help his victims, and that manyof his other victims were also Christians. - Stan]
She didn’t live to see justice done. By 26, Kayla Mueller was already gone—killed a world away from home, in ISIS captivity. For four years, her parents have struggled to make sense of her death, “haunted every day,” they say, by the fact that her country was silent.
Today, that country—led by a man determined to find the terrorists responsible—can rest a little easier, knowing that the butcher behind Kayla’s murder—and so many others’—has finally met his maker.

Most Americans were just sitting down to take in Game 4 of the World Series when U.S. forces were preparing to launch one of the most significant military operations since 2011. With President Trump and high-ranking security and military personnel watching from a situation room thousands of miles away, White House officials got the news they’d been waiting since 2011 to hear: the reign of the world’s most wanted terrorist, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was over.

It was a significant moment, not just for the administration—but for parents like Kayla’s, James Foley’s, and countless families across the country whose courageous sons and daughters risked their lives to see this mission accomplished. After a raid that spanned two hours, the president told the nation that “a brutal killer, one who has caused so much hardship and death, has been violently eliminated… The world is now a much safer place. God bless America.”
For Marsha and Carl Mueller, the news was bittersweet. “We are so grateful for [the special operations and military]… so grateful. I still say Kayla should be here, and if Obama had been as decisive as President Trump, maybe she would have been,” an emotional Marsha said afterward. She and Carl, who begged the Obama administration to take “forceful action against these people,” felt the sting of the previous president’s silence. “[ISIS] need[s] to know if you kidnap Americans, you are going to die,” Carl said at the time. “Right now, they’re given a free pass.”
Under Trump’s predecessor, the world watched as ISIS burned its way across Iraq and Syria, destroying villages, systematically raping and kidnapping women and children. Ancient tribes and communities that date back to the age of Christ were suddenly the scene of mass executions and beheadings. Nadia Murad, an ISIS sex slave-turned-human rights activist, says her people—the Yazidis—are still on Mount Sinjar, because of the Obama administration’s indifference. The others were murdered on the way. She called the death of al-Baghdadi “welcoming news for the world, especially for those [minorities] who were targeted by ISIS.” “Baghdadi died as he lived—a coward using children as a shield. Let today be the beginning of the global fight to bring ISIS to justice.”

But, Nadia went on, it’s important not to forget that those who suffered at the hands of al-Baghdadi and his militants still need help. “In particular, religious minorities in Iraq like the Yazidis and Christians. Yazidis are still displaced and thousands (mostly women and children) remain missing.” She, like Diane Foley, mother of slain journalist James Foley, hopes the captured ISIS fighters will be “held accountable”—something that never happened under Obama, who refused even to call the annihilation of her people “genocide.” Instead, this “JV team” was left unchecked, going from “obscurity,” ABC News noted, “to the world’s most brutal terrorist network.”

“By the end of Obama’s second term,” Forbes’s Thomas Del Beccaro points out in his column, even CNN had warned that the ‘self-proclaimed Islamic State has conducted or inspired more than 140 terrorist attacks in 29 countries other than Iraq and Syria, where its carnage has taken a much deadlier toll. Those attacks have killed at least 2,043 people and injured thousands more.’ That is an enormous growth spurt by any stretch of the imagination.”

All of it led to the rise of monsters like al-Baghdadi and armies of fighters just like him. Together, they led thousands of innocent girls like Kayla to a fate no parent can’t fathom. “She was held in many prisons. She was held in solitary confinement. She was tortured. She was intimidated. She was ultimately raped by al-Baghdadi himself,” an emotional Carl said. “He either killed her, or he was complicit in her murder. I’ll let people who read this make up their own mind how a parent should feel.”

For now, at least, he can take comfort that the mission named after his daughter was a success. America’s  [present] commander-in-chief has sent a message to the world that terrorists can run and hide, but they can’t hide forever - the United States will hunt them down. Obviously, the end of al-Baghdadi isn’t the end of the ISIS threat. According to the intelligence community, there are still as many as 18,000 fighters still in the Middle East—with its tentacles deep into unsuspecting countries. While our troops continue to prove why they’re the most elite force in the world, a new chapter in the war on terror awaits. And Americans everywhere will be grateful to know: this president takes it seriously.

#2829 (10/28) "My New Book: 'Guilty by Reason of Insanity'"

"MY NEW BOOK: 'GUILTY BY REASON OF INSANITY'"David LimbaughDavid Limbaugh|Posted: Oct 25, 2019; https://townhall.com/columnists/davidlimbaugh/2019/10/25/my-new-book-guilty-by-reason-of-insanity-n25553

While Trump-haters keep obsessing over his tweets and "manners," we are witnessing the Democrats' ongoing rejection of President Donald Trump's constitutional right to govern and the people's sovereign choice in electing him. Let's check our priorities.

You may regard Trump's tweet "#StopTheCoup" as political theater, but it's not, and we need to take notice. Ever since Trump's presidential announcement, leftists have been plotting and scheming against him. The polite elites pooh-poohed this as fevered conspiracy hype while promoting their dream narrative that Robert Mueller had the goods on Trump for conspiring with Russia to steal the election. As soon as this myth was definitively obliterated -- by none other than Mueller himself -- the Trump-hunters turned to obstruction of justice as a fallback, though obstructing an investigation into something the alleged obstructer knew never occurred never made a lot of sense.

The mobs variously turned to other potential Hail Mary "high crimes" to oust Trump, like pursuing his tax returns based on no evidence of impropriety -- another fishing expedition to find any impropriety that could substantiate their slander that Trump has committed impeachable offenses. Though the sainted Mueller failed them, Democrats didn't retreat like disgraced accusers and apologize to the country for their fraudulent witch hunt and their complicity in orchestrating it. Unrepentant, they instantly pivoted to Ukraine-gate as yet another bogus charge in their ever-evolving crusade to oust Trump -- and to divert attention from counterinvestigations that could finally expose some of them, and their allies, for doing what they've been falsely accusing Trump of doing: interfering with an election.

Take Rep. Adam Schiff, for example. How many times did this reckless, malicious buffoon swear, unchallenged, that he had solid evidence of Trump's "collusion" with Russia? Has he ever been held accountable for his lies? Has anyone in the liberal media showcased his misconduct? To the contrary, Schiff is conducting secret hearings in a private room in the congressional basement in hot pursuit of another witch hunt. His Star Chamber proceeding facilitates his selective leaking of witness testimony to make thirdhand hearsay sound like smoking guns and create the impression that this time, they really do have the goods on Trump.

Democrats act this way while not in control of both legislative chambers or the executive branch. Can you imagine what they'll do if they defeat Trump and capture the Senate in 2020?

Well, I can imagine, and it horrifies me, which is why I have written my new book, "Guilty by Reason of Insanity: Why the Democrats Must Not Win," to be released Oct. 29. In the very beginning of the book, I dispel the myth that the political left and conservatives share the same goals for America but just have different ideas about how to achieve them. If this were ever true before, which I highly doubt, it is demonstrably false now. The left shows every day that it rejects the American idea and seeks to radically transform our system of government, our economy and our culture.

The two parties have distinctly different visions for America, based on conflicting worldviews. I write: "Some will object that all Americans want everyone to be prosperous, safe, free, and to live in harmony, but I'm not sure that's even true anymore, given the left's anti-Americanism, its intolerance and authoritarianism, its romance with socialism, its hysterical environmentalism, its preoccupation with identity politics, its radicalism on race and gender, its attempts to erase our borders, its culture of death, its devaluation of the Constitution, its hostility to Second Amendment rights, and much more.
"The Democratic Party is a vehicle of leftist extremism that poses an existential threat to America as founded -- because it is at war with our first principles and traditions. It is anti-capitalist and rejects equality of opportunity in favor of a hierarchy of privileges for identity groups ranked according to their levels of alleged historical oppression. It's a brazenly anti-life party that promotes gender anarchy, militant feminism, and hostility toward traditional male roles and masculinity itself. It prosecutes a vicious culture war punctuated by an ongoing assault on Christians' religious liberty."

I go into great depth about the leftists' agenda and how they are conducting themselves, not only providing myriad examples of their insanity but exploring the intellectual and moral fallacies underlying their ideas on socialism, gender identity, race, immigration, abortion and America's quintessential founding principles of liberty and limited government.

My goal, as with all of my books, was to make a comprehensive yet accessible case, and readers will have judge whether I succeeded. But I urge you read it because the stakes couldn't be higher. The 2020 elections will be a referendum on everything we hold dear about this country. We must do a better job explaining our position, especially to young people mesmerized by the seductive allure of socialism and the other social justice causes of the Democratic Party, which is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the radical left. I hope this book provides ample fodder for those who want to get in this fight to preserve America as founded.
