#3275 (2/18) "Talent on Loan from God"

"TALENT ON LOAN FROM GOD"Oliver North: Feb 18, 2021; https://townhall.com/columnists/olivernorth/2021/02/18/talent-on-loan-from-god-n2584921 [AS I SEE IT: Without doubt, this is one of the saddest days I've known as just today I learned of Rush's passing. He was definitely one true heroes.  Since he recently shared that his illness was finally determined to be terminal, I knew the time remaining for him to be with us was short but I still didn't want to believe that. I sense this is just one of countless tributes that will be shared in the days to come but this one does so very well. It comforts me greatly to know that Rush will be in Heaven and that I will get to finally meet him one day in eternity. May God bless America by raising up other eloquent voices that may never be as good but will help America be great again. - Stan]

We heard him say it hundreds of times, as did many of you: “Talent on loan from God.” Some of Rush’s Limbaugh’s detractors liked to claim the statement was haughty. But those of us who knew him recognized the famous signoff to his radio program as humility, not ego. Rush was truly an extraordinary talent, a media icon of unprecedented stature. His radio audience of 27 million Americans looked to him not just for guidance and insight but to give voice to their most deeply held convictions and most deeply felt concerns. Every time he sat down behind his golden EIB microphone, Rush said what millions of patriotic Americans thought and felt who had no platform for expressing themselves.

Even though he enjoyed monumental success, Rush was a humble man who readily acknowledged the source of his talent and success. He has now gone home to be with his Creator, Lord and Savior. It’s said that the angels sing when a true child of God comes home. We like to think that rather than singing, they are all gathered around listening to Rush expound on the state of our nation; a nation God has blessed above all others, but a nation in which many now take His blessings for granted while refusing to acknowledge their source.

I, Oliver North, worked with Rush on numerous projects. We teamed up to raise money for conservative causes and support heroes in our military, firemen and law enforcement. These are the men and women he admired above all others. Ironically, Rush never seemed to realize that to these American heroes, he was a hero. The author of seven books, Rush helped me become a best-selling author by introducing books I wrote on his radio program. Along the way, we became more than media colleagues, we became soul mates. America has lost its most influential voice for conservative values and we’ve all lost a dear friend.

If conservatives in America had a guru, it was Rush Limbaugh. Receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom -- America’s highest civilian honor -- was an appropriate and well-deserved capstone to a media career spanning more than three decades. In presenting the award, during the State of the Union address in January 2020, then President Donald Trump thanked Rush for his “decades of tireless devotion to our country.” In so doing, the president revealed in just a few words why Rush’s program lasted thirty-three years and was broadcast on more than 600 stations: “…tireless devotion to our country.”

Unlike some in the media, Rush’s radio program wasn’t about him; it was about America, the country he loved passionately and unceasingly. Rush understood America is not just a geographical location on a map of the world, but an idea; an idea envisioned by our founders more than 240 years ago. Foundational elements of that idea include individual liberty, limited government, personal responsibility, opportunity and free markets. Few people in the history of our great nation have been more committed to maintaining these ideals of our founders. Fewer still have been more influential in educating millions in these ideals.

Diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer, Rush Limbaugh outlived his physicians’ prognosis. But he did not live long enough. At a time when America’s history is being rewritten by ideologues who reject our founding principles and values, we could use his steady voice on the Excellence-in-Broadcasting microphone. At a time when politicians on the left are rejecting the economic principles that made America the envy of the world in favor of socialism, we could use Rush’s no-nonsense analysis of their nefarious and misguided schemes. Rush spoke unvarnished truth to his audience and it resounded with patriotic Americans who are tired of being condescended to by media elites, Marxist professors and mansion-dwelling dilettantes in Congress and Hollywood.

He gave voice to everyday Americans who do the hard work of keeping our country running, who put their lives on the line every day in fire service and law enforcement, who grow the food we eat, and who do the fighting and dying as soldiers, sailors, airmen, guardsmen and Marines. He spoke for Americans who kneel for God and stand for our flag, who proudly sing our national anthem no matter how off-key they may be, and who want little from government except to be left alone.

Rush knew America emerged as the world’s leader in innovation, inventions, technology, manufacturing and charity because of our foundational principles of freedom, opportunity and the American work ethic. This is why he dedicated his professional life to preserving these principles. He was an unabashed believer in American exceptionalism and used every ounce of his substantial influence to preserve the factors that make America exceptional. To Rush, America is both good and great; a status he deemed worth fighting to preserve. America has lost not just a media giant, but an ardent, articulate, unabashed patriot who gave his life fighting for our country. Rest in peace, Rush. You will be missed but not forgotten.

Hard-pressed on every side. In Iran, Sam and Maryam were arrested along with five other Iranian believers in 2019. These Christians were convicted of propaganda against the state” for possessing Christian materials. Sam was sentenced to one year in prison followed by two years of exile. Maryam, a nurse, was fined and is banned from working for any national institution, including the hospital she has served for 20 years. If that wasn’t enough, the couple was also  found “not fit” to be parents to their 2-year-old adopted daughter, Lydia—simply because they are Christians. Even the judge declared that Lydia, who suffers from health problems, may spend the rest of her life in state care. The couple lost their appeal in the case, which means their daughter will be taken from them.

Feb. 12, 2021. GOD ALSO HAS A SENSE OF HUMOR: Even before he was elected president, former President Trump has been attacked mercilessly by a segment of our population that now vindictively is trying to convict him of crimes second time. Recently, 2 guys I know have gone to making fun of us conservatives who have supported Donald Trump. I believe most of us do so because we appreciate how his policies have greatly helped our country and even brought peace to the Middle East after decades of turmoil. Well, guys, I also have a sense of humor and I believe so does God. How about this: Picture all of us believers seated at the Great Supper of the Lamb and who does God place to sit betweern the two of you but Donald Trump. Not only that, but during dinner, he has you 3 stand up and asks the two of you to place a special crown upon the former president's head to reward him for all the unborn children he saved from abortion through his policies. Now THAT would be a fun moment, don't you guys think? Ha, Ha! (P.S. - BTW,  there are many Christian leaders who have testified to Donald Trump being a Christian, including a man I greatly admire, the founder of Focus on the Family ministry, James Dobson.) Guys, all of us believers are growing in sanctification and none of us behave as God or ourselves would like. I choose to see the fruit of a person's life, not his sins and other missteps. If God shows grace to us, can you not show it as well? THAT, I believe, honors God, not belittling the views of others. How about it guys?

Feb. 15, 20121. GOD COMES THROUGH AGAIN! - After several failed attempts to even pull up my workplace Publix site at home to make an appointment to get a COVID vaccination shot, I was resigned to waiting for some future time when I might finally get on. (Not that I've been too concerned about gettting one.) Then, this past Sat., I shared my frustrating experiences with the pharmacist at my store who said that they had no more appointments to give out. THEN, just 5 minutes before my shift started, a pharmacist assistant stopped by the breakroom I was in to say that they had a shot to give me if I came "NOW!" Needless to say I literally ran over but it ended up taking about half an hour for them to make the necessary phone calls to arrranage for me to get a shot. But sure enough, I ended up finding myself rolling up my left arm sleeve and getting a shot! Not only that  but I was given an exact time in one month to come by to get my second shot without having to go through the process of trying to secure an appointment. (I honestly think they were concerrned that I am so old - will be 70 this June - that they made a special attempt to arrange for me to get the shot.) I just praise God that I have another example of how He will step in and help his children when they are ready to give up. It was a great reminder that everything is in God's timing to do His way. How cool is that! PRAISE HIM! [Question: Could the Sovereign God have arranged for me to be working at the super market I have now been at over 4 years ago because He knew this virus was coming and wanted to make provision for my needs? Of coursr, we cannot know the answer to that but rememmber that "all things are possible with God! [Mk. 10:27]" ) 😀

Feb. 17, 2021: WHEN FRIENDS LOVE LIKE GOD! I have 2 special friends - Danny and Becky - who I've known for around 40 years when we served together in full time ministry in Japan. I had been sharing with them about how my very old computer has been acting especially slow lately and I wasn't sure what to do. Over the past weekend, they told me to expect a UPS package this week. It only occured to me Sunday night as I was preparing to bed that they might have sent me a computer. But I sort of laughed because I could not imagine anyone sending e such a gift. I really thought it was more likely a package of chocolates to cheer me up.
Well, yesterday, I was overwhelmed with surprise when I discovered the package outside my front door and sure enough it contained a laptop computer!(I have never owned a wireless computer.) I just happened tbe talking with Becky when I made the discovery and she explained that they had recenly learned that there was some money left in her Mom's estate after she had died recently.(I have been praying for her for several years and been sending her my blog alerts.) They had kindly decided to purchase a computer for me and Becky said that her Mom would have happily approved. As they continue to be in full-time ministry, I am very aware of they esp. have financial needs and so their generosity takes my breath away. It reminds me so much of those moments when God blesses you unexpectedly and there is no way to sufficiently thank Him. It is such a reminder of the grace of God that began at Calvary, when God gave His very best - His own Son Jesus - to die for us not because we were good but because He loved us. It's one of those special moments when it's like having Heaven come down to earth. I can only pray my life will be a model of God's grace as well.

“INTERCESSORS ARE THE RUDDER” – A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT - Wanda Alger, June 28th, 2017; https://www.getamericapraying.com/blog/I was recently given a word by my good friend, Bill Yount. His word greatly encouraged me as an intercessor. Working for Intercessors for America, I soon realized it was not just a word for me, but for all who have been praying for our nation, wondering if their prayers are truly making any difference. Bill told me, “I kept seeing you as a small rudder on a huge ship. Hidden, but giving guidance. Although it seemed slow it was turning the whole ship. Patience was needed to see the impact of your…ministry. I sense the Lord saying, ‘Don’t jump ship! I’ve made you the rudder!’ ” I was immediately touched in my spirit by this encouragement, knowing that our seemingly small place in prayer was having a great impact.
James 3:4 talks about the power of a small rudder to steer a large ship. In this scripture about the power of our tongue, consider the power of prophetic intercession! In the Forerunner Commentary on this verse we read, “…rudders manipulate the course of immense ocean vessels with a slight movement of a pilot’s hand. Since it is underwater and aft, the rudder of a ship does its work UNSEEN. A passenger is ignorant of its movements most of the time. Yet, when it is in proper working order, the rudder holds more power over the ship than the wind. The wind will blow, toss, even destroy the ship’s rigging, but the rudder guides the ship exactly where it directs.”
This is God’s promise to the intercessors in this hour of national turbulence. Don’t stop praying! Your prayers have great power to turn the ship! Continue praying, interceding, and discerning the workings and movements of the Holy Spirit, being faithful to God’s commands. As we come together to declare God’s faithfulness, this nation will, once again, head in the direction that God intends. Don’t give up and don’t give in. Regardless of the winds of adversity and the fires of the enemy, God’s people have a power that cannot be matched. Let us join in faith and continue to pray and speak of God’s faithfulness in order to bring God’s people and this nation into the fullness of God’s plans. Note this additional encouragement from God’s word:
Colossians 2:15 – “He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him” (ESV).
Psalm 33:8-11 – “Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. The Lord foils the plans of the nations; He thwarts the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.”
Wanda Alger, IFA Field Correspondent

PRAY FOR AMERICA: THANK GOD for His many blessings on America throughout it's history. May we then ask that AMERICA once again be a blessing TO GOD, by once again submitting to HIS will in our affairs - both personal and national - that He may truly "heal our land." (2 Chron. 7:14) Short of that, we should not be saying "God Bless America"but instead "God be merciful towards America!"
PRAY FOR OUR LEADERS 1) Pray for President Trump and his advisers, that they would select Godly leaders at the federal level who will be accountable to do an excellent job (or be fired!) ; that he would seek God's wisdom and be enabled to lead our country effectively in the years ahead; and 2) Pray our leaders at every level of government will Spirit-filled, leading us with Godly wisdom and integrity; that they will  only pass legislation and enact policies that will benefit Americans today as well as future generations and NOT do any lasting harm.
SUPREME COURT: PRAY that the justices will only hand down decisions that are Constitutionally sound and in the best interests of our country now and for future generations.

STANDING STRONG THROUGH THE STORM - OpenDoorsUSA.org
At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them.- 2 Tim. 4:16
SPEAK ON BEHALF OF THOSE WHO SUFFER
The Apostle Paul knew exactly what it was like to be alone, to be deserted by all who called themselves “brothers” and “sisters.” A former colleague who has done considerable travel among the persecuted says, “It is hard to believe that Christians are the largest persecuted group in the world today. But it is even more difficult to believe that this is so seldom mentioned in our gatherings and church services. More Christians know the names of their favorite actors than their fellow believers who are in prison.”
He continues, “With every trip something in my heart breaks as I hear the echoes of suffering:
I remember the echoes of an Egyptian mother as she shared how her young boy was stuck in a haystack because she refused to deny Jesus.
I remember the sounds of weeping as fellow students in Indonesia shared how Sariman, their co-student, was hacked to death.
I remember the cries of anguish as we walked from church to church that was burned to the ground on the island of Lombok.
I remember the tears of Rebecca in Iran as she showed the picture of her father who was stabbed to death for sharing the gospel.
I remember the voice of Pastor Daniel in Vietnam as he shared how he was chained to the ground for six months.
I remember the fear of Grace from Sudan as she shared how her church was attacked and her friend was shot through the head.
Oh, I remember the cries of Caleb in Eritrea as he shared with tears how two dear friends were executed in front of him because of their faith.
And I remember the tears of Joy in the southern Philippines as she shared how her fiancé was shot to death in their church in Mindanao.
But, most all, I remember the deafening sounds of silence every time I return home.
RESPONSE
How can I be silent today? How can I not speak on behalf of those who suffer?

#3273 (2/16) "Trump Voters Will Never Forgive Shameful GOP Establishment"

"TRUMP VOTERS WILL NEVER FORGIVE SHAMEFUL GOP ESTABLISHMENT" - Jeff Crouere: Feb 15, 2021;   https://townhall.com/columnists/jeffcrouere/2021/02/15/trump-voters-will-never-forgive-shameful-gop-establishment-n2584730 [AS I SEE IT: I have long had problems with Sen. McConnell, confused by just where he stood on conservative issues. His lashing out at the former president was truly shameful and unexplainable. Another person in the anti-Trump group these days has been - unexpectedly - former Gov. and UN representative Nikki Haley, who last week also suddenly lashed out at Trump. As a Christian, I could never say "will never forgive" but truly the actions by these Establishment Republicans are actions I and my 74+ million bretheren" will not be soon forgotten. - Stan]

Source: AP Photo/Alex Brandon

In 2016, Donald Trump was elected president of the United States despite being opposed by the establishment of the Republican Party. After four successful years as president, he received a record-setting 74.2 million votes. Obviously, the vast majority of Republicans strongly supported President Trump and approved of his performance in office. Polls showed that President Trump’s support level among Republicans reached 90 percent in 2020, an amazing feat considering the type of opposition he faced.

Not surprisingly, he did not receive this type of support from his enemies within the Democratic Party, the Deep State, the media, and the Republican Party establishment. These GOP opponents were powerful, although they did not represent a significant number of grassroots Republicans.

Some of the anti-Trump Republicans formed the now-disgraced Lincoln Project. This group raised millions of dollars to purchase political advertisements encouraging voters to reject President Trump. They ridiculed him in every way imaginable; however, it is now poetic justice that the despicable actions of its leadership will lead to the organization’s demise.

Other Republican Party leaders who hated President Trump were careful to give lip service to his “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) agenda, but they never truly supported it. In fact, these policies are despised by many Republicans, who prefer the big government globalist agenda supported by former GOP presidential nominees like the late U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) and the current U.S. Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT).

In the unconstitutional and unfair second impeachment of President Trump, these establishment Republicans saw a perfect opportunity to destroy the future potential of the MAGA agenda. In the U.S. House of Representatives, ten Republicans voted to impeach the president. After a sham U.S. Senate trial, with a partisan Democratic senator sitting as “judge,” seven Republicans shamefully voted to convict the president.

Among this group was U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA), who was recently re-elected to a six-year term. In his campaign, he aired countless television and radio commercials touting the support of President Trump. After using this key endorsement to win re-election, he immediately began to condemn the president for continuing to challenge the election results. Despite an avalanche of criticism from Republican voters in Louisiana and protests at his Senate office, Cassidy remained disparaging of the president in the election aftermath. It culminated in his vote to convict the president for inciting the U.S. Capitol riot, even though he encouraged his crowd of supporters to “peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.”

In an interview with former Clinton operative George Stephanopoulos on ABC-TV, Cassidy discussed the future of the Republican Party. He said, “I think his (Trump) force wanes. The Republican Party is more than just one person. The Republican Party is about ideas.” Yes, Senator Cassidy, the Republican Party needs to embrace ideas, but they are the ones articulated by President Trump. These ideas include cutting taxes and regulations, defending our Bill of Rights, especially the 1st and 2nd amendments, promoting strong borders, reducing illegal immigration, reasserting American sovereignty, supporting American manufacturing and jobs, demanding fair trade deals with China and other countries, pursuing energy independence, stopping the endless wars overseas, and ensuring election integrity.

Obviously, Senator Cassidy and his establishment Republican colleagues don't care about President Trump or his MAGA agenda. He also does not care about his Republican supporters in Louisiana. Fortunately, the executive committee of Louisiana Republican Party leaders responded to Cassidy’s betrayal by unanimously voting to censure him for his reprehensible support of the Trump conviction. This action followed the Wyoming Republican Party’s censure of U.S. Representative Liz Cheney and the pending censure of U.S. Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE) by his state’s Republican Party central committee. A petition has also been started by Utah voters demanding that Romney “resign” from the Senate.

The GOP opposition to the president was not limited to those in Congress who supported his impeachment and conviction. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) blasted President Trump in a speech after the vote to acquit him. McConnell claimed the former president was “practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day, no questions about it.” He continued, “The people who stormed this building believed they were acting on the wishes and instructions of their president and having that belief was a foreseeable consequence of the growing crescendo of false statements, conspiracy theories, and reckless hyperbole which the defeated president kept shouting into the largest megaphone on planet Earth.” While McConnell voted to acquit Trump, he noted that the former president could still be criminally punished for his actions. He stated, “We have a criminal justice system in this country. We have civil litigation. And former presidents are not immune from being held accountable by either one.”

With GOP leaders like McConnell, who needs enemies? These contemptible comments by the Republican Senate leader will only harm the ability of the GOP to win in future elections. In an interview on Fox News, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) criticized McConnell’s comments. He claimed that McConnell “put a load on the back of Republicans, that speech you will see in 2022 campaigns. I would imagine if you’re a Republican running in Arizona or Georgia or New Hampshire, where we have a chance to take back the Senate, they may be playing Senator McConnell’s speech and asking about it as a candidate.”

McConnell and the other Trump hating Republicans put their dislike of the president ahead of the interests of the party. McConnell symbolizes everything that is wrong in the Republican Party. He is a swamp creature who has been in D.C. for decades too long. He supports positions based on politics, not principle, and is clearly the leader of the GOP establishment.

If the McConnell wing of the Republican Party is not defeated, the GOP will eventually perish. It is either the “America First” agenda of Donald Trump or the MAGA supporters will form a new party. Grassroots Republicans are furious, and that anger is not going away.

#3272 (2/15) "4 Examples of Extraordinary Presidential Leadership"

"4 EXAMPLES OF EXTRAORDINARY PRESIDENTIAL LEADERSHIP" - John Venable  / February 15, 2016 / http://dailysignal.com/2016/02/15/4-examples-of-extraordinary-presidential-leadership [AS I SEE IT: 1) I wish greatly that a Christian film group will produce a documentary about George Washington, especially of how his faith influenced his leadership of our country at a most critical time. For some reason, I don't know of any such production in light ot the greatness of our former president.  and 2) Despite how many choose to criticize former president Trump for his style of leadership, I choose to see the many ways he lead our nation in a time of great changes for the better on many issues in such a short time. I believe history will be much kinder to him than the critics who attack him mercilessly. - Stan]

There’s no better way of celebrating our presidents around Presidents Day than by remembering a few of their extraordinary acts of courage. Here are four examples highlighting when past presidents have displayed clear leadership:

1) George Washington. When King George III asked what General Washington would do after he led the Colonial Army to victory, the target of his conversation answered, “They say he will return to his farm.” “If he does that,” King George said, “he will be the greatest man in the world.” And still, he gave up command. There was no template for the role of president when Washington was elected to office. He could have considered himself a clerk to carry out congressional legislation, acted as a pollster of sorts that followed the whims of the states—or even a king.

His tenure as president can certainly be judged in the way he restored our financial footing, or how he led our nation through the pains of growth. But the real measure of his character is found in the way he fulfilled King George III’s words, by voluntarily stepping down not just from command of the Colonial Army, but from what would become the most powerful office in the world.  Washington set the precedent for those who followed in many ways, and perhaps the biggest way he did this was in his willingness to go against convention and cede power after just two terms.

 2) Abraham Lincoln. President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation was attacked from all sides. National papers decried it as “a monstrous usurpation, a criminal wrong, and an act of national suicide.” Desertions by disgusted Union soldiers climbed into the thousands, and a New York Herald correspondent wrote, “The army is dissatisfied and the air is thick with revolution[.]”

Riots broke out in New York City, the largest of their kind to that moment in American history. Seeing no slaves freed, even abolitionists were soured by the proclamation’s impotence. Lincoln was isolated and alone, and yet he considered, and our nation remembers, the Emancipation Proclamation as his greatest act as president. He didn’t just put his comfort and reputation at risk; he would ultimately sacrifice his life in his move to better our nation.

 3) Harry S. Truman. Following North Korea’s invasion of the South in 1950, General Douglas MacArthur was placed in command of the force to retake the peninsula. He was already an American icon, and as his forces drove the North Koreans back toward the Chinese border, his legend grew.

The Allies’ advance drew China into the conflict, and as President Harry Truman became increasingly worried about the war’s escalation, he denied MacArthur’s requests to expand his campaign into China. Adamant in his stance, MacArthur took his argument directly to Congress and aired his views openly to the press. Even in the face of MacArthur’s success and universal popularity, Truman relieved him of his command in April of 1951. Truman’s actions kept the conflict from expanding, reaffirmed his control over the military, and reinforced the strength of the commander in chief for following presidents.

 4) Ronald Reagan. On Aug. 3, 1981, more than 13,000 air traffic controllers went on strike throughout the U.S. The strike came at the peak of summer travel, forcing some 7,000 flight cancelations of across the country. President Ronald Reagan declared the strike illegal and threatened to fire controllers who didn’t return to work within 48 hours. Dismissing the controllers would inevitably impede air travel, and Reagan’s closest advisers worried that a major air disaster might result if the president held his red line. Two days later, he fired 11,000 striking air traffic controllers.

The Federal Aviation Administration’s contingency plan restored airline operations, but it would be many months before air travel returned to pre-strike levels. As unpopular a measure as it was, by going against the advice of his staff and conventional wisdom, Reagan reaffirmed his intent to enforce the law and strengthened America’s hand in everything from public discourse to our dealings with the Soviet Union.

PRAYER MATTERS:

February 15 - Pray the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard Sam, Maryam and Lydia in Christ Jesus (Phil. 4:7).
