"DID JESUS REALLY EXIST?'- John Stonerstreet with Shane Morris, Breakpoint.org,,  3/24/2021,  What Would You Say If Someone Told You Jesus Didn’t Really Exist - BreakPoint

Each year as Easter approaches, pseudo-scholars, newspapers, and cable networks make headlines claiming to offer the real story about Jesus. Their accounts assume that much of the Jesus story contained in the Gospels, especially anything miraculous is largely a myth created and propagated by, first, His followers, and later, Church leaders seeking to expand their power. Despite the skepticism, few suggest that Jesus never existed.

Online, of course, that is a different story. Though there are no serious scholars who question whether Jesus of Nazareth actually existed, it’s still a claim you might encounter, either on the internet or from someone who believes their internet source. So, what if you find yourself in a conversation with someone who says: “No one really knows whether Jesus existed or not.”

The latest video in our “What Would You Say?” series tackles this question: Here’s my colleague Shane Morris…

The next time someone says they don’t think we can be sure that Jesus ever existed, here are 3 things to remember:

Number 1: Several non-Christian historians of that period mention Jesus. Josephus was a Jewish historian who had grown up in Jerusalem in the first century, the same city where Jesus was reported to have been crucified. Josephus’ father was a Jewish priest who would have been a contemporary of Jesus, and almost certainly would have seen him if he had existed. Josephus mentions Jesus on two occasions in his History of the Jews: In one he reports his crucifixion at the demand of the Jewish leaders and in the other, he mentions the execution of James, the brother of Jesus who is called Messiah. Josephus would have known Jesus was a historical person and would have no reason to invent him if he didn’t.  Other non-Christian historians also mention Jesus, including the Roman historian Tacitus, the Greek satirist Lucian, and a prisoner named Mara bar Serapion.

Number 2: The apostle Paul, someone who persecuted the Christian Church, would have been a contemporary of Jesus and claims to have known Jesus’ brother Jamest is very unlikely that Paul would have given his life to a movement he had once persecuted if it had been based on a fictitious man who had supposedly traveled and preached in the same area in which Paul himself lived. Jesus would have been publicly crucified at a time and location where and when Paul would have been present, in response to demands made by Jewish authorities whom Paul would have known. Paul claimed to personally know Jesus’ brother James. Fictitious people tend not to have brothers who are personally known.

Number 3: Most contemporary scholars think that at least some of the Gospels are closely rooted in the eyewitness testimony of Jesus’ disciples. Although modern scholars differ in their opinions about the historical accuracy of the Gospels, most think the Gospels of Mark and John are closely based on eyewitness testimony of two of Jesus’ disciples, who had traveled with him. It would have been easier to invent the existence of a mythical person that supposedly lived centuries prior to writing about them. It’s much harder to invent a person that supposedly existed within the memory of living eyewitnesses. The accounts of Jesus are eyewitness accounts.

Find the whole video of Shane answering the question “Did Jesus Really Exist?” go to whatwouldyousay.org. Or, search for “What Would You Say?” on YouTube. The first result will be a music video from the Dave Matthews Band, but look for the icon with the blue question mark. That’s the What Would You Say channel. “INTERCESSORS ARE THE RUDDER” – A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT - Wanda Alger, June 28th, 2017; https://www.getamericapraying.com/blog/I was recently given a word by my good friend, Bill Yount. His word greatly encouraged me as an intercessor. Working for Intercessors for America, I soon realized it was not just a word for me, but for all who have been praying for our nation, wondering if their prayers are truly making any difference. Bill told me, “I kept seeing you as a small rudder on a huge ship. Hidden, but giving guidance. Although it seemed slow it was turning the whole ship. Patience was needed to see the impact of your…ministry. I sense the Lord saying, ‘Don’t jump ship! I’ve made you the rudder!’ ” I was immediately touched in my spirit by this encouragement, knowing that our seemingly small place in prayer was having a great impact.
James 3:4 talks about the power of a small rudder to steer a large ship. In this scripture about the power of our tongue, consider the power of prophetic intercession! In the Forerunner Commentary on this verse we read, “…rudders manipulate the course of immense ocean vessels with a slight movement of a pilot’s hand. Since it is underwater and aft, the rudder of a ship does its work UNSEEN. A passenger is ignorant of its movements most of the time. Yet, when it is in proper working order, the rudder holds more power over the ship than the wind. The wind will blow, toss, even destroy the ship’s rigging, but the rudder guides the ship exactly where it directs.”
This is God’s promise to the intercessors in this hour of national turbulence. Don’t stop praying! Your prayers have great power to turn the ship! Continue praying, interceding, and discerning the workings and movements of the Holy Spirit, being faithful to God’s commands. As we come together to declare God’s faithfulness, this nation will, once again, head in the direction that God intends. Don’t give up and don’t give in. Regardless of the winds of adversity and the fires of the enemy, God’s people have a power that cannot be matched. Let us join in faith and continue to pray and speak of God’s faithfulness in order to bring God’s people and this nation into the fullness of God’s plans. Note this additional encouragement from God’s word:
Colossians 2:15 – “He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him” (ESV).
Psalm 33:8-11 – “Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. The Lord foils the plans of the nations; He thwarts the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.”

PRAY FOR AMERICA: THANK GOD for His many blessings on America throughout it's history. May we then ask that AMERICA once again be a blessing TO GOD, by once again submitting to HIS will in our affairs - both personal and national - that He may truly "heal our land." (2 Chron. 7:14) Short of that, we should not be saying "God Bless America"but instead "God be merciful towards America!"
PRAY FOR OUR LEADERS 1) Pray for President Trump and his advisers, that they would select Godly leaders at the federal level who will be accountable to do an excellent job (or be fired!) ; that he would seek God's wisdom and be enabled to lead our country effectively in the years ahead; and 2) Pray our leaders at every level of government will Spirit-filled, leading us with Godly wisdom and integrity; that they will  only pass legislation and enact policies that will benefit Americans today as well as future generations and NOT do any lasting harm.
SUPREME COURT: PRAY that the justices will only hand down decisions that are Constitutionally sound and in the best interests of our country now and for future generations.

STANDING STRONG THROUGH THE STORM - OpenDoorsUSA.org
At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them.- 2 Tim. 4:16
SPEAK ON BEHALF OF THOSE WHO SUFFER
The Apostle Paul knew exactly what it was like to be alone, to be deserted by all who called themselves “brothers” and “sisters.” A former colleague who has done considerable travel among the persecuted says, “It is hard to believe that Christians are the largest persecuted group in the world today. But it is even more difficult to believe that this is so seldom mentioned in our gatherings and church services. More Christians know the names of their favorite actors than their fellow believers who are in prison.”
He continues, “With every trip something in my heart breaks as I hear the echoes of suffering:
I remember the echoes of an Egyptian mother as she shared how her young boy was stuck in a haystack because she refused to deny Jesus.
I remember the sounds of weeping as fellow students in Indonesia shared how Sariman, their co-student, was hacked to death.
I remember the cries of anguish as we walked from church to church that was burned to the ground on the island of Lombok.
I remember the tears of Rebecca in Iran as she showed the picture of her father who was stabbed to death for sharing the gospel.
I remember the voice of Pastor Daniel in Vietnam as he shared how he was chained to the ground for six months.
I remember the fear of Grace from Sudan as she shared how her church was attacked and her friend was shot through the head.
Oh, I remember the cries of Caleb in Eritrea as he shared with tears how two dear friends were executed in front of him because of their faith.
And I remember the tears of Joy in the southern Philippines as she shared how her fiancé was shot to death in their church in Mindanao.
But, most all, I remember the deafening sounds of silence every time I return home.
RESPONSE
How can I be silent today? How can I not speak on behalf of those who suffer?

#3277 (3/30) “Caring for Children Is What Sets the Church Apart - The Ministry of Pandita Ramabai”

“CARING FOR CHILDREN IS WHAT SETS THE CHURCH APART - THE MINISTRY OF PANDITA  RAMABAI” - John Stonestreet and Glenn Sunshine,  03/30/21; https://www.breakpoint.org/caring-for-children-is-what-sets-the-church-apart/ [AS I SEE IT: I am assuming that this article doesn't  mention the Church's role in opposing abortion because that speaks of caring for children in a most obvious way. -  Stan]

A defining characteristic of pagan societies is the sacrificing of the well-being of children on the altar of adult happiness and self-fulfillment. Our own pagan society is no different. In a single-minded pursuit of sexual pleasure, career, or lifestyle, we tell ourselves that “the kids will be fine,” even though they’re clearly not.

Throughout history, across cultures and time periods, Christians bringing the Gospel to pagan cultures found themselves defending and protecting abandoned and abused children as wellFor example, 19th century India was not a welcoming place for girls. Considered inferior to men, women were not allowed to be educated or to work for a living. Child marriage was a fairly common practice. Though the practice of sati (burning widows on their husband’s funeral pyres) had been abolished, the fate of widows in that culture was harsh. Considered to be cursed, they would often be subjected to terrible abuse at the hands of their husband’s family.

Pandita Ramabai’s family was different. Pandita’s father, a member of the priestly caste known as Brahmins, encouraged her to learn how to read the Hindu scriptures. Not only did she learn, her skills and mastery of the text earned her acclaim. Her study also fed her growing doubts about the truth of Hinduism. After she was married, Pandita found a copy of the Gospel of Luke in her husband’s library. Drawn to Christianity, she invited a missionary to their home to explain the Gospel to her and her husband. Not long after this, her husband passed away.

Shortly thereafter, a child-widow came to her door looking for charity. Pandita took her in as if she were her own daughter. Moved by the young widow’s situation, Pandita started an organization called Arya Mahila Samaj to educate girls and to advocate for the abolition of child-marriage.

It was when she traveled to England that Pandita Ramabai formally converted to Christianity. Returning to India, she set up a school for girls and widows in what’s now called Mumbai. At first, to avoid offending Hindus, she agreed not to promote Christianity and followed the rules of the Brahmin caste. Even these concessions weren’t enough. Within a year the school was under attack, and her local financial support dried up. So, she moved the school to Pune, about 90 miles away. In 1897, after a famine and plague struck the area around Pune, Pandita Ramabai established a second school 30 miles away from there.

Among the subjects taught to the girls in her school was literature (for moral instruction), physiology (to teach them about their bodies), and industrial arts such as printing, carpentry, tailoring, masonry, wood-cutting, weaving, needlework, farming, and gardening.

At first, Pandita had only two assistants. So, she developed a system to help take care of and educate the girls, first teaching the older girls, who would then take care of and help teach the younger ones. In this way, they managed to care for the growing number of girls who made their way to the school and take care of. By 1900, 2,000 girls were living thereIn 1919, three years before her death, the British king awarded Pandita Ramabai the Kaiser-i-Hind award, the highest honor that an Indian could receive during the colonial period.

Pandita’s example is one of many that we must take seriously today. To live in a pagan society is to encounter victims of bad ideas. Often, especially in our culture, these victims are children. Whenever a Christian or a church decides that to speak up on controversial cultural issues is to “get too political,” they leave these victims without protection and are out of step with Christian history. Whenever a Christian or a church claims that they avoid these issues because “it distracts from the Gospel,” they are embracing an anemic, truncated Gospel. Christians today can join those who’ve gone before us, proclaiming the Gospel and caring for children.

One way to do this is by signing the Promise to America’s Children, pledging to protect the minds, bodies, and the most important relationships of children in our society. And learn all the ways children are being victimized and how the Church can help, by reading Them Before Us: Why We Need a Global Children’s Rights Movement, a vital new book by Katy Faust. Them Before Us is the featured resource from the Colson Center this month.

#3276 (3/29) "Biden Cracks Under Presser”

"BIDEN CRACKS UNDER PRESSER” - Family Research Council,  March 26, 2021; https://www.frc.org/get.cfm?i=WA21C62&f=WU21C20

If Americans were concerned that Joe Biden hadn't held a press conference, imagine how concerned they must be now that he has. After smashing the 100-year record for radio silence, most people assumed that the 78-year-old president would be a little more prepared to meet the press. What they got instead was a painful, hour-long confirmation that the fragile man leading our country has absolutely none of our crises -- the border, China, COVID, or fair and free elections -- in hand.

If it weren't for a sympathetic press and Donald Trump to blame all of his problems on, Thursday's media event would have been a complete and utter disaster. As it is, even Biden's usual cheerleaders are starting to wonder where all of that "transparency" he promised has gone. ABC News's Cecilia Vega, who struck a nerve when she directed something other than a softball question to Biden, said, "We have pushed the White House more than two dozen times to get into some of these facilities... There's [one] in Donna, Texas, that is at more than 1,500-percent capacity. We're talking about severe, extreme overcrowding." When she asked the president if that was acceptable to him, he got angry. His only strategy seems to be lying his way through the mess and using his predecessor as a foil for everything that's gone wrong. There's just one problem with his strategy, experts are firing back: the facts.

"Where are the disinformation police?" Jim Geraghty demanded. "Yesterday, President Joe Biden stood before the American public and insisted that 'nothing has changed,' and that everything we were seeing -- to the extent the Biden administration is allowing the public to see it -- was normal." The same number of migrants come flocking to the border every year, he claimed. And President Trump, Biden argued, dumped them in the desert to starve. He shut down detention facilities and crammed kids in cages. His policies never worked.

That's interesting, since even Mexican President Andrés Obrador says he misses the strong hand of Donald Trump. Despite the White House's deflections, Obrador has been quite candid about where the blame lies for this surge, and that's with the current administration. "Expectations were created that with the government of President Biden there would be a better treatment of migrants. And this has caused Central American migrants, and also from our country, wanting to cross the border thinking that it is easier to do so," he said on Tuesday. Even the New York Times conceded that officials throughout Mexico appreciated Trump's strict approach because it helped "less[en] their load by deterring migrants from attempting to make the journey north."

As for the rest of Biden's whoppers about the Trump policy, they're easy enough to refute. NRO's Rich Lowry spilled more than 5,000 words on the subject, angrily reminding Americans, "No, the Trump administration didn't send kids into the desert -- it returned them to their home countries. No, it didn't dismantle our immigration system -- it found an approach at the border that worked. No, it didn't irresponsibly close shelters at the border -- it shut down surge facilities when they were no longer needed, and under intense political pressure from the Democrats."

And what has Biden done? Stopped construction on the border wall, refused to hold asylum seekers in Mexico, put a freeze on deportations, taken border agents off the line to process paperwork, and reinstated catch and release. Congressman Brian Babin (R-Texas), co-chairman of the House Border Security Caucus, couldn't get over how Biden's alternate reality on the crisis. That press conference, he said, "was a big bunch of nothing." "We have 15,000-16,000 illegal juveniles -- unaccompanied children in custody," he shook his head. "We are well on track to be the highest in history and all at the expense of the American taxpayer. And coming in with COVID positive cases during a pandemic and in a recession... and what do we keep hearing about? ... The cruelty of the Trump administration." As a senator, Babin pointed out, Kamala Harris said that holding kids over 72 hours was "inhumanity." "I wonder what she would say now that they're crammed into spaces for weeks on end?"

Of course, he says, "they used to be called cages when President Trump was in office. Now they're 'facilities for influx in care.'" But no matter what they are, Babin argued, they were meant to hold 80 people -- not 694, as we've seen in some detention centers. "It's a really, really dire situation." All we're doing, he said, is empowering the cartels. "Look," Babin argued, "Nobody comes across that border unless they are paying the cartels, or they are working for the cartels. You will lose your life if you do not do business with the cartels. That's the way this thing works. They have coyotes that carry them in. They've got scouts that are up on the hills." They look for the gaps and start "human trafficking right through it."

The Biden administration is failing the American people. It's time to send some forces to the border, like Congressman Babin says, and step in the gap that's been created by this White House. "Start protecting the American people. Protect us from crime, protect us from terrorism."
