#3291 "The Last Enemy"

The Last Enemy. April 19, 2021: First of all, yesterday, as I reported for my work shift, my boss Bobby shared with me that his 2 dogs, aged 14 and 17, had become so ill that there was no choice but to “put them down” this morning. My heart broke at the sadness on his face and I shared with him that I had gone through a similarly difficult experience with my pet cat Squeaky 15 years ago. I told him I would be praying for him and if you should be reading this sometime this morning (or afterwards for that matter), please lift up Bobby with me.

Bobby’s  heartbreaking decision brought to mind two other reminders of how death is something that intrudes itself into our life. This past Saturday,  I participated in  another Walk for Life that raised money to help minister to girls and women finding themselves in crisis pregnancies and who would otherwise consider abortion as their only option. Sadly, each day in America, an estimated 3,000 innocent unborn babies are aborted, while worldwide an estimated 40,000 are!  Then yesterday, as I was driving to my house church weekly gathering, I noticed a huge flock of buzzards feasting on the dead body of a beautiful deer that had probably been hit by a car and thrown to the median.

Death seems everywhere.  Even with all our efforts to fight it off, even with modern science’s best discoveries, all they will ever be able to do is delay death not defeat it. The world has never had an answer to it but God does. His answer is Jesus Christ.

Just 2 weeks ago, we celebrated the most significant event for Christians after the birth of Christ and the entrance of God into our world. We noted the Resurrection of Jesus Christ that once and forever brought us victory over dearth. As a result of Christ’s victory  on the cross  over death, each of us who believe in His finished work are given assurance of spending eternity in Heaven with God. We have no reason to fear death but  can see it as a defeated Enemy that we will merely pass through on our way to being forever with our Heavenly Father.

As I have been reading again through the book of Acts in the Bible, I am continually reminded of how much the gospel shared by the first believers mentioned the resurrection of Christ. Then, there is the incredible 15th chapter of First Corinthians that focuses on Christ’s resurrection and our future resurrection. Note such passages that say “the last enemy to be  destroyed is death.” (v. 26), “…

Death has been swallowed up in victory.,  ‘Where O death, is your victory? Where, O death,  is your sting?’ The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is t he law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (v. 54-55).

As I reflected on Christ’s Resurrection as the answer to all the death I see around me, it led me to begin singing that glorious hymn by the great hymn writer Charles Wesley, “Christ the Lord Is Risen Today.”

“Christ the Lord is ris’n today, Alleluia! Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia! Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia! Sing ye heav’ns , and earth reply: Alleluia!

“Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia! Where O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia! Dying once He all doth save, Alleuluia! Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluuia!

“Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia! Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia! Death in vain forbids Him rise, Alleluia! Christ has opened Paradise, Alleluia!

“Soar we now where Christ has led, Alleluia! Following our exalted Head, Alleluia! Made like  Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia! Ours th4 cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!”

P.S. – I certainly believe the unborn who have been aborted WILL be in Heaven. I also believe – though I know it’s controversial – that God’s animal creations (esp. our pets) WILL be in Heaven. I just cannot believe that God’s special creations will just cease to exist at their death. I believe Heaven will be big enough for sure to encompass all of God’s animal creations. (:

The Church under attack. Hebrews 10:24 tells believers not to neglect meeting together. We often talk about how the Church is not a building, but in World Watch List countries one very effective persecution tactic focuses on making it impossible or very difficult for believers to physically meet together. Churches are burned down, ransacked or destroyed, and believers are threatened. And yet our faithful brothers and  sisters persevere.

April 19 - Pray with Pastor Ranjit’s church in Sri Lanka. They’re facing repeated challenges to building a church and home for their pastor. Villagers set fire to their building supplies, followed by setting up a roadblock to the church’s property. Pray for justice when the case gets to court.

"JOIN IN 30 DAYS OF PRAYER FOR THE MUSLIM WORLD"- John Stonestreet, Breakpoint.org, 04/13/21; https://www.breakpoint.org/join-in-30-days-of-prayer-for-the-muslim-world/

In 1996 American political scientist Samuel Huntington wrote a book called The Clash of Civilizations. In it, he proposed a remarkable thesis, that while in the past, especially in the 20th century, global conflicts had been primarily between nations, countries, and kingdoms, in the future, especially in the 21st century, global conflicts would increasingly be between not nation-states but between cultures, between civilizations.

These cultural fault lines, as he called them, sometimes existed within a country or existed across regions. It didn’t take very long within the 21st Century to prove his theory correct. In fact, in The Clash of Civilizations, Huntington went on to predict that the hottest of these conflicts would be between religious and non-religious cultures, specifically, that what you might call the hottest of the hot would be between Islam and the West. In the time since 9/11, his predictions have largely played out.

But there has been another story dealing with Islam that has played out at almost the same time. In fact, just over the last three decades or so, we have seen a remarkable number of Muslims coming to Christ. Individuals from the Islamic world are reporting conversions – sometimes through dreams, sometimes through missions, sometimes through other means. Regardless of the means, it has been what one missiologist called a remarkable movement of the Holy Spirit. The reports are so numerous, in fact, that a foundation recruited a friend of mine, a scholar named Dr. David Garrison, to investigate. They sent him for several months to visit various corners of the Muslim world and to figure out where these stories were coming from. They wanted to know how legitimate these reports were. Garrison put together his findings in a book called A Wind in the House of Islam.

You see in the whole history of the Islamic faith, there have been few reports of large movements of Muslims becoming Christians – very few in fact. But about 80 percent of all the movements recorded in history of large groups of Muslims becoming Christians have taken place in just the last three decades.

There’s something else that’s taken place over the last three decades: Each and every year for the last 28 years, during the season of Ramadan, the most holy period in the Islamic calendar, a group of Christians led by a prayer guide, have together prayed for Christ to draw Muslims to Himself. Ramadan is a very good time to keep our Muslim neighbors and Muslims around the world and prayer.

Since 1993 to be precise, the “30 Days of Prayer for the Muslim World” prayer guide has been equipping Christians to pray for Muslims during this season of Ramadan. It is an international movement that calls on, “The church to make a deliberate but respectful effort to learn about, to pray for, and to reach out to our world’s Muslim neighbors.” There is even a “30 Days of Prayer for the Muslim World Prayer Guide” for kids which I have used with my own family.

The “30 Days of Prayer for the Muslim World” is available both in a print booklet and as a digital download. You can find it by going to 30DaysPrayer.com. Or come to BreakPoint.org, and we’ll tell you how to pick up a copy.

James tells us that the effectual prayer of a righteous man avails much. This has been a movement of prayer of hundreds of thousands of Christians for decades. Let’s be a part of it.

“INTERCESSORS ARE THE RUDDER” – A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT - Wanda Alger, June 28th, 2017; https://www.getamericapraying.com/blog/I was recently given a word by my good friend, Bill Yount. His word greatly encouraged me as an intercessor. Working for Intercessors for America, I soon realized it was not just a word for me, but for all who have been praying for our nation, wondering if their prayers are truly making any difference. Bill told me, “I kept seeing you as a small rudder on a huge ship. Hidden, but giving guidance. Although it seemed slow it was turning the whole ship. Patience was needed to see the impact of your…ministry. I sense the Lord saying, ‘Don’t jump ship! I’ve made you the rudder!’ ” I was immediately touched in my spirit by this encouragement, knowing that our seemingly small place in prayer was having a great impact.
James 3:4 talks about the power of a small rudder to steer a large ship. In this scripture about the power of our tongue, consider the power of prophetic intercession! In the Forerunner Commentary on this verse we read, “…rudders manipulate the course of immense ocean vessels with a slight movement of a pilot’s hand. Since it is underwater and aft, the rudder of a ship does its work UNSEEN. A passenger is ignorant of its movements most of the time. Yet, when it is in proper working order, the rudder holds more power over the ship than the wind. The wind will blow, toss, even destroy the ship’s rigging, but the rudder guides the ship exactly where it directs.”
This is God’s promise to the intercessors in this hour of national turbulence. Don’t stop praying! Your prayers have great power to turn the ship! Continue praying, interceding, and discerning the workings and movements of the Holy Spirit, being faithful to God’s commands. As we come together to declare God’s faithfulness, this nation will, once again, head in the direction that God intends. Don’t give up and don’t give in. Regardless of the winds of adversity and the fires of the enemy, God’s people have a power that cannot be matched. Let us join in faith and continue to pray and speak of God’s faithfulness in order to bring God’s people and this nation into the fullness of God’s plans. Note this additional encouragement from God’s word:
Colossians 2:15 – “He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him” (ESV).
Psalm 33:8-11 – “Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. The Lord foils the plans of the nations; He thwarts the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.” Wanda Alger, IFA Field Correspondent

PRAY FOR AMERICA: THANK GOD for His many blessings on America throughout it's history. May we then ask that AMERICA once again be a blessing TO GOD, by once again submitting to HIS will in our affairs - both personal and national - that He may truly "heal our land." (2 Chron. 7:14) Short of that, we should not be saying "God Bless America"but instead "God be merciful towards America!"
PRAY FOR OUR LEADERS:  1) Pray for President Trump and his advisers, that they would select Godly leaders at the federal level who will be accountable to do an excellent job (or be fired!) ; that he would seek God's wisdom and be enabled to lead our country effectively in the years ahead; and 2) Pray our leaders at every level of government will Spirit-filled, leading us with Godly wisdom and integrity; that they will  only pass legislation and enact policies that will benefit Americans today as well as future generations and NOT do any lasting harm.
SUPREME COURT: PRAY that the justices will only hand down decisions that are Constitutionally sound and in the best interests of our country now and for future generations.

SPEAK ON BEHALF OF THOSE WHO SUFFER
The Apostle Paul knew exactly what it was like to be alone, to be deserted by all who called themselves “brothers” and “sisters.” A former colleague who has done considerable travel among the persecuted says, “It is hard to believe that Christians are the largest persecuted group in the world today. But it is even more difficult to believe that this is so seldom mentioned in our gatherings and church services. More Christians know the names of their favorite actors than their fellow believers who are in prison.”
He continues, “With every trip something in my heart breaks as I hear the echoes of suffering:
I remember the echoes of an Egyptian mother as she shared how her young boy was stuck in a haystack because she refused to deny Jesus.
I remember the sounds of weeping as fellow students in Indonesia shared how Sariman, their co-student, was hacked to death.
I remember the cries of anguish as we walked from church to church that was burned to the ground on the island of Lombok.
I remember the tears of Rebecca in Iran as she showed the picture of her father who was stabbed to death for sharing the gospel.
I remember the voice of Pastor Daniel in Vietnam as he shared how he was chained to the ground for six months.
I remember the fear of Grace from Sudan as she shared how her church was attacked and her friend was shot through the head.
Oh, I remember the cries of Caleb in Eritrea as he shared with tears how two dear friends were executed in front of him because of their faith.
And I remember the tears of Joy in the southern Philippines as she shared how her fiancé was shot to death in their church in Mindanao.
But, most all, I remember the deafening sounds of silence every time I return home.
RESPONSE
How can I be silent today? How can I not speak on behalf of those who suffer?

#3289 (4/12) "Biden's Infrastructure Paves the Road to Ruin"

"BIDEN'S INFRASTRUCTURE PLAN PAVES THE ROAD TO RUIN" - Tony Perkins, FRC.org, April 1, 2021; https://www.frc.org/get.cfm?i=WA21D01&f=WU21D01

------------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------------------

A few weeks ago, Joe Biden sat down with historians to see how he could change America in a way no other president had. Wednesday, we found out his plan: he's going to bankrupt us. The FDR wannabe didn't even wait until the ink on his $1.9 trillion dollar blue-state bailout (a.k.a. "COVID relief") was dry before trucking off to Pittsburgh and announcing he wants to spend $2.25 trillion more. Conveniently disguised as an "infrastructure bill," the White House has found a way to tuck the Green New Deal into an innocent-sounding public works package. His puppets in the media might sell it that way, but the Republican Party is calling it what it is: highway robbery.

"We know that 80 percent or more of people in this country -- Democrats and Republicans support investing in infrastructure," White House press secretary Jen Psaki insisted. Well, that would be great, conservatives said, if it actually invested in infrastructure. But this proposal isn't about fixing a few potholes. If it were, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) pointed out, Republicans might be on board. "There would be bipartisan support for a serious, targeted infrastructure plan," he tweeted. But that's not what this is. "Unfortunately, less than six percent of this massive White House proposal would go to roads and bridges. It would spend more on electric cars than on roads, bridges, ports, airports, and waterways combined." It's a trojan horse, he argued, "for massive tax hikes and job-killing Left-wing policies."

Policies, Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) pointed out on "Washington Watch" Wednesday, that have more to do with racial justice, climate change, elder care, "affordable housing," violence prevention, and forced union membership than any meaningful repairs or construction. "Let's be very clear here," Perry said. "Even the prime sponsors of the Green New Deal in the Senate said this is not an infrastructure package. It's the Green New Deal. [We're talking about] billions of dollars being spent on things like electric vehicle charging stations. Just think about that." How many of you would think it's appropriate for your taxes to pay for gas station construction? "The private sector built them, because they could fund those with private equity and make money on their investment. But yet now, we're going to compete with the private sector and try and force you to pay for it -- and then force you to drive an electric vehicle when we have the grid collapsing in places like California and Texas." It's concerning, he said.

Then, to top it all off, Biden plans to slam the brakes on American growth and force more companies to send jobs overseas. "Under Biden's plan," former President Trump argued in a statement, "if you create jobs in America, and hire American workers, you will pay MORE in taxes -- but if you close down your factories in Ohio and Michigan, and move all your production to Beijing and Shanghai, you will pay LESS. It is the exact OPPOSITE of putting America First -- it is putting America LAST!" This legislation, he warns, if it passes, "would be among the largest self-inflicted economic wounds in history... The result will be more Americans out of work, more families shattered, more factories abandoned, more industries wrecked, and more Main Streets boarded up and closed."

Biden's predecessor certainly has a stake in the matter, having slashed the taxes that this White House plans to raise to pay for everything. The administration is talking about hiking the corporate tax rate from Trump's 21 percent (which was a double-digit drop) to 28 percent. In other words, we're going to destroy the one thing that's really fueled our job creation and economic growth these last few years. And somehow Biden believes that will make us more competitive with China? No one is quite sure how since American businesses will be paying more than China's 25 percent corporate tax rate.

The whole plan is another example of the striking contrast between our two parties. Democrats believe government is the job creator -- that if we just give more money to the government, it's going to create jobs. But those jobs don't have a multiplying effect on the economy. Only the private sector jobs do that, because they aren't taking any money out of the economy involuntarily. They take profits, reinvest them in expansion and growth, and that has the multiplying effect. It's basic economics

And while Joe Biden likes to play the "I'm-only-going-to-tax-the-rich" card, the reality is that even Left-leaning economists agree that low-income and middle class families will suffer with fewer jobs, lower pay, and smaller returns on their investments. As for the corporations, conservatives aren't as sympathetic. Will that higher tax rate hurt the economy? Yes, and it's going to hurt everyday Americans. But corporate America is getting what they asked for: liberal policies. Most of these woke CEOs are in the hip pocket of the Left, fighting their cultural battles -- helping to give rise to these Leftists. And that's where these crushing, anti-free market policies come from.

Just look at what Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) tweeted about Biden's plan: "This is not nearly enough." It's $2.25 trillion dollars and a major increase in taxes -- and still it's not enough. It'll never be enough for the socialists who think government should control everything and take care of everything. But those people don't live in the real world. It's the private sector that creates good, lasting jobs. It's what makes America competitive. All this will do is pour cold water on the economic recovery we're experiencing. And in the end, it'll be what most radical policies are: a dead-end -- because the government is never capable of doing what the free market can.
