#3006 (4/22) FAMILY EMERGENCY! / Continued Prayer Requested! [Also special blog notice]

4/1 UPDATE: In the past few weeks AFTER the Walk for Life itself, I had encouraged people to consider giving towards my faith goal or $900 to match the totals of the past few years. With people focused on the ongoing health pandemic, I came to believe that I would not get any closer to that goal. Then yesterday, I was blown away by a surprise email from a good friend in JAPAN who receives my blog alerts. She shared that she and her husband wanted to give $100 towards that goal! Wow! What an encouragement! The total I’ve seen God raised NOW stands unofficially at $816.  As I told her, I don’t know how much longer my (above) fund raising page would still be up. And so, I advised her and you - if God leads YOU to give,  please send a check made out to “Thrive Orlando” to the following address:: Thrive OrlandoP.O. Box 677188Orlando, Fl 32817  Also, BE SURE to write on the check that it is for “Stan Yonashiro’s effort with TOWalk for Life.  THANK YOU!

FAMILY EMERGENCY! / Continued Prayer Requested! - from Stan, 4/22/2020
[NOTE: As great as that is, of course, NOTHING compares to the infinite love of God shown in Christ Jesus! I didn't like the quote but I loved the picture and didn't have time to find a better one. I do wish there had been a way to include the picture and not the quote. - Stan]

Introduction: The following are entries that I've posted the past week on my FaceBook pag
e. They start with my celebrating my cat Purrty's 14th birthday last Wed, April 15, and chronicles the sudden change in her the following day. I can't emphasize enough that Purrty is not just my pet cat; he is my best friend, companion, and like my little girl. [Unfortunately I don't have a picture of her at this time to post with this but she is all black with a white belly. As soon as I get a picture, I look forward to sharing it with you.] As of this post she is doing much better but I would REALLY appreciate your continued prayers. THANK YOU!]

4/15: TODAY is my precious cat Purrty's 14th birthday. I've been blessed to have her over 13 of
those years and truly THANK GOD of His gift of her to me. Happy Birthday, Purrty!

4/19:FAMILY EMERGENCY: Please pray for Purrty! - If you've ever lived alone for any length of time and your sole companion was a pet God gifted you with, you might understand why I consider my cat PURRTY my family.

Basically, the day after she turned 14 last Wed, she suddenly stopped eating and drinking from her water dish. At first I thought it was just a phase she was having esp. after she ate some food that i gave her on Sat. I called a vet anyway and she advised I take Purrty to an emergency vet hospital nearby. I decided to wait till today to see if she might start drinkning water and sure enough this morning she did drink from a water bowl after not having drunk any water for several days. Back to normal I thought. But then I looked at her lying lethargically and something (or Someone) just said "Something is definitely wrong" and so I packed her in the car and went to the vet hospital. After waiting nearly 3 hours to see a technician. After another hour the vet came in to tell me that blood tests showed that Purrty is severely anemic and needs a blood transfusion. She was administered that sometime since I left her around 5 to go to work. By 7 am tomorrow (Mon.) morning, I am to pick her up and take her to a vet specialist on the north side of town,
PLEASE PRAY that the transfusion helped her significantly AND that the specialist I am seeing will be able to determine the best treatment for her. I will continue to fast and pray for her until I know what God's will is (kind of like what David did in 2 Sam 12:15 when he learned his son with Bathsheba was suddenly very ill) I appreciate your joining me in praying for my precious friend Purrty. I will post an update as soon as I know more. THANK YOU!!! (As Jesus said to His/our Father at Gethsemane "THY WILL be done"; Amen!)

4/20: UPDATE ON PURRTY: Praise God she's resp;onded well to the blood transfusion and other care that she received at the hospital last night. Praise God also that when I went to pick her up at 630 am to take her to see a specialist, the emergency hospital said that they finally determined that, though Purrty is a strictly indoor cat, she's been suffering from flea bites; go figure! PLEASE PRAY that the further checking they will do today will confirm that it is a treatable problem and not more complicated. P.S. - It was especially hard last night at work as I found myself becoming emotional thinking that her body might reject the transfusion and that I could lose her. She looked so much more normal this morning I can but hope. THANK YOU AGAIN for your continued prayers! Will keep you posted.

4/21: UPDATE ON PURRY - 4/21: What a day! Praise God my first day off since this all started allowed me to stay at home with Purrty staying close to me on my bed. Special! I was so encouraged that throughout the day she had eaten food and drank water several times.(Yes, I have her food and water dish sitting ON my bed!) She even went to the litter box for the first time in 5 days but only peed twice; please pray that whatever is preventing her from pooping will somehow be removed. Whether reading my Bible or engaging in my usual time of intercession on my days off, I made sure to do it while stroking and huggging her often. I was also pleased when not napping she stretched out twice to groom herself! ANYWAY, tomorrow (4/22) morning I take her to the vet at 7:30 for a follow-up appointment. After returning home, I plan to do my usual blog posting, then dash off to Home Depot to pick up the needed supplies, then return home to prepare if to flea bomb the entire interior Thursday morning. PLEASE PRAY that it will get rid of whatever flea eggs are in the house and give her a safe environment to recover in. (I daily give give her a flea medication.) PRAY that my strength holds up as it will be an intense day. I['m hoping to still have time to do some of the 3 hours of intercessioin I usually do on Wednesdays. . When you love another, you do everything you can with all the strength you have. I want to honor God's gift of Purrty to me. May HE choose to bless me by helping my special friend to recover fully. *** I Sam 12:30a.

4/22 (TODAY) The vet gave a blood test and said that Purrty is progressing well in her body producing more red blood cells. Also she has been gaining some weight she recently lost.  (No need to go to a specialist, who could have ordered some expensive tests and treatments. Though I would be willing to get her whatever help she needs, her care has already cost almost 2 months of income from my job. I'm grateful to be spared at this time any further major expenses. P.S. - I just returned from the store to get the flea foggers and flea comb. When I checked her litter box, there was a nice piece of poop laying on top of the litter! (Yes, she's never got the hang of coveing her poop.) Yeah! PLEASE KEEP PRAYING; THANK YOU!

#3005 (4/21) "The Truth About China and the Coronavirus"

"THE TRUTH ABOUT CHINA AND THE CORONAVIRUS"Sebastian Gorka / @SebGorka / April 20, 2020 / https://www.dailysignal.com/2020/04/20/the-truth-about-china-and-the-coronavirus/
Americans need to understand the depths and extent of what Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has called Beijing’s “coronavirus disinformation campaign.” Pictured: Young players welcome the Monday reopening of outdoor courts at the basketball theme park Wukesong Hi-Park in Beijing after China's capital city had been in lockdown since Jan. 25. (Photo: Fred Lee/Getty Images)

Biological warfare is an established weapon of war. From the disease-based experimentation on humans mounted by Japan’s Unit 731 during World War II to the Soviet Union’s development of natural diseases such as anthrax into weaponized pathogens in its illicit Biopreparat research facilities, this is not a topic reserved to Tom Clancy novels or “Mission Impossible” movies. As a result, it is reasonable to ask whether COVID-19, which originated in China and has taken more than 167,350 lives globally to date, is a naturally occurring disease or a man-made (or modified) agent of attack.

This is an especially justified question given that the geographic locus for the new coronavirus that causes the disease is Wuhan, home to one of communist China’s institutes for virological research. Recent media reports indicate that the virus that causes the disease COVID-19 indeed may have been accidentally leaked. Indeed, much analysis points to the possibility of a connection between the Chinese government’s work on corona-type viruses and the novel coronavirus that has killed so many across the globe.

It is crucial for all Americans to understand the depths and extent of what Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has called Beijing’s “coronavirus disinformation campaign.” To that end, here is the chronology of exactly what happened when, and how the communist regime in Beijing lied about it. (I am grateful to Pompeo’s team, especially the Bureau of Global Public Affairs, for compiling the original COVID-19 cover-up chronology.)

Timeline of the COVID-19 Outbreak
Nov. 17: The first case of someone in China suffering from COVID-19 is reported, according to government data seen by the South China Morning Post.
Dec. 10: Wei Guixian, a seafood merchant in Wuhan’s Huanan market, began to feel sick. She will be discharged from the hospital in January, having survived the coronavirus.
Dec. 27: Zhang Jixian, a doctor from Hubei Provincial Hospital of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine, tells China’s health authorities that a new disease affecting some 180 patients was caused by a new coronavirus.
Dec. 26-30: Evidence of a new virus emerges from Wuhan patient data sent to multiple Chinese genomics companies.
Dec. 31: Chinese officials alert the World Health Organization’s China Country Office of several cases of pneumonia of unknown cause detected in Wuhan.
Jan. 9: The World Health Organization releases a statement on the cluster of pneumonia cases in Wuhan.
Jan. 11: Having provided the genomic sequence of the virus to national authorities Jan. 5 and seeing no action from them, professor Zhang Yongzhen of the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Centre publishes the data on virological.org and GenBank, allowing teams around the world to begin work on testing methods.
Jan. 14: The WHO announces for the first time that there may have been limited human-to-human transmission of the virus.
Jan. 18: Wuhan authorities go ahead with a “potluck” banquet for 40,000 families in an attempt to break a world record.
Jan. 20: Dr. Zhong Nanshan, a leading authority on respiratory health who was well known for his role in fighting SARS, confirms in a TV interview that the disease is spreading from person to person, a fact first identified by doctors in Wuhan in December. Zhong later will say that if the government had taken action earlier, in December or even early January, “the number of sick would have been greatly reduced.” Wuhan Mayor Zhou Xianwang says that rules imposed by the central government in Beijing limit what he could disclose about the threat posed by the Wuhan virus.
Jan. 23: Chinese authorities lock down Wuhan after allowing 5 million people to leave the city without screening amid the growing outbreak.
Feb. 7: Dr. Li Wenliang dies of COVID-19 after contracting it from a patient, five weeks after police detained him for trying to alert fellow doctors to the outbreak. His death triggers an outpouring of grief and anger at Chinese authorities.

***  Those are the crucial facts of what happened in China last year and at the beginning of this year. Another, just as important chronology exists, though: the timeline of how China hid the truth, destroyed crucial biological and genetic evidence, and intimidated those who tried to tell the truth about the Wuhan virus.

Timeline of the Chinese Coronavirus Cover-Up
Dec. 26-30: The health commission in China’s Hubei province orders a genomics company to stop testing and to destroy all samples of the new coronavirus.
Dec. 31: Chinese internet authorities begin censoring terms from social media, including “Wuhan unknown pneumonia,” “SARS variation,” “Wuhan seafood market,” and related keywords and phrases critical of the government’s handling of the infection.
Jan. 1: Authorities bring in for questioning eight doctors in Wuhan who had warned about the new virus via social media in late December, including Li. They condemn the doctors for “making false statements on the internet.” Authorities also force Li to write a classic Maoist self-criticism denouncing his own prior statements.Wuhan authorities close the city’s seafood market, then disinfect it without swabbing individual animals and cages for samples or drawing blood from infected workers, eliminating evidence of which animal might have been the source of the coronavirus and who had been infected but survived.
Jan. 3: China’s top health authority, the National Health Commission, follows Hubei’s health commission by issuing a gag order directing that Wuhan pneumonia samples be moved to designated state testing facilities or destroyed. The National Health Commission also orders institutions not to publish any information related to the unknown disease.
Jan. 10: Prominent Chinese government expert Wang Guangfa tells state broadcaster China Central Television that the Wuhan pneumonia was “under control” and mostly a “mild condition.”
Jan. 12: Authorities close Zhang’s lab in Shanghai for “rectification” one day after sharing genomic sequence data with the world for the first time.
Jan. 14: Plainclothes police detain journalists who are trying to report from Wuhan’s Jinyintan Hospital, and force them to erase their video footage and hand in their cellphones and cameras.
Jan. 15: Li Qun, head of the emergency center at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, plays down the threat of human-to-human transmission on state television: “After careful screening and prudent judgment, we have reached the latest understanding that the risk of human-to-human transmission is low.”
Feb. 6: China’s internet watchdog tightens controls on social media platforms following Chinese President Xi Jinping’s directive to strengthen online media control to “maintain social stability.” Citizen journalist and former human rights lawyer Chen Qiushi disappears in Wuhan after posting mobile-phone videos of packed hospitals and distraught families.
Feb. 9: Citizen journalist and local businessman Fang Bin disappears after posting videos from Wuhan that circulated widely on Chinese social media.
Feb. 15: Authorities arrest lawyer and civil rights activist Xu Zhiyong, who has been on the run for nearly two months, after he publishes a Feb. 4 essay calling on Xi to step down for suppressing information about the Wuhan virus.

Feb. 16: Authorities place Tsinghua University professor Xu Zhangrun under house arrest, bar him from social media, and cut him off from the internet after he publishes an essay declaring: “The coronavirus epidemic has revealed the rotten core of Chinese governance.”
Feb. 19: Beijing revokes the press credentials of three Wall Street Journal reporters who had covered the coronavirus outbreak, including one who was reporting from Wuhan.
March 14: Real estate entrepreneur and activist Ren Zhiqiang disappears in Beijing after criticizing Xi’s coronavirus response.

*** At the same time that the Chinese Communist Party and its security organs were suppressing the truth domestically and arresting those who knew the truth about the new coronavirus, its diplomats and bureaucrats initiated a global disinformation campaign. Their most egregious lie was that COVID-19 originated in America and was brought to China by U.S. military personnel. China hasn’t just lied about the virus that originated in Wuhan and may have escaped from its own virology lab. The communist regime also is using this global pandemic as a weapon of disinformation against the United States.

President Donald Trump is on the cusp of making the decision to reopen America. He has established a task force on restarting the economy, and key nongovernmental organizations, such as The Heritage Foundation, are submitting recommendations as to how we can revitalize and resurrect an economy that was the end of the world prior to our self-enforced lockdown.

The question now is will the deaths of tens of thousands of Americans, in large part as a result of the mendacity of communist China, be our new “Sputnik Moment?” We have one strategic-level adversary in the world today. That adversary is China, and it has a plan to displace America and become, at the very least, a regional hegemon. China is using the coronavirus, man-made or not, as a tool in that plan.

We will come through this national emergency. But will we draw the right conclusions?

#3004 (4/20) "What Would the Reopening of the Economy Look Like?"

"WHAT WOULD THE REOPOENING OF THE ECONOMY LOOK LIKE?" - Ben Shapiro / @benshapiro / April 17, 2020 / https://www.dailysignal.com/2020/04/17/what-would-the-reopening-of-the-economy-look-like/

As our national lockdown drags on, Americans seem less and less inclined to move swiftly toward societal reopening. Perhaps that’s due to the consistent media focus on the risks of reopening. Perhaps that’s also due to the psychological comfort of the status quo: When we’ve been made to feel safe in our home, it’s difficult to leave it. Or perhaps we, as a society, have so fundamentally altered our own perception of risk aversion that we aren’t willing to leave our houses unless the risk is close to zero.

Whatever the reason, it’s simply untenable to lock Americans down for months more. Calls to do that ignore not only the catastrophic human suffering inflicted on millions—employees who no longer have jobs, children who can no longer attend school, entrepreneurs who have seen their life’s dreams and savings destroyed at the behest of the government—but also the reality of economics, which is that government cannot interminably pay everyone to stay at home.

Furthermore, long-term lockdowns do not even prevent the virus from eventual second-wave spreading. When we emerge from our homes, we will pass the virus to one another again.

So, how should we view the risks of reopening our society? Rationally.
That means that we should stop looking at false case-fatality rates as inevitabilities. We simply don’t know how many Americans have had COVID-19, or how many have it now. We do know that the number of confirmed cases is far lower than the number of cases in society more broadly.
In New York, the supposed case-fatality rate—the number of deaths from the coronavirus over the number of confirmed cases—rests at around 5%. But between March 22 and April 4, 215, pregnant women were screened for COVID-19 in New York City, according to the New England Journal of Medicine. Four women had symptoms of COVID-19, and 29 tested positive despite being asymptomatic. This means 13.5% of these women had COVID-19 without knowing it. For every symptomatic woman, there were seven others who were asymptomatic but positive. If applied statewide—a simplistic model, but certainly one that would be closer to accuracy than mere confirmed cases—this would drop the case-fatality rate from 5% to 0.7%. Needless to say, such a statistic would alleviate some worry, particularly among less vulnerable populations.
We should also stop treating all cohorts of American society as equally vulnerable to the coronavirus. According to two New York University studies, the first most predictive condition for hospitalization was age: Almost half of all coronavirus patients hospitalized in New York City were over the age of 65. The next most predictive condition was obesity. And over 70% of hospitalized coronavirus patients had a chronic condition.
This should be no surprise: As of April 12, the New York City Health Department reported 128 fatalities among people with no underlying conditions and just 26 deaths among people below age 45 with no underlying conditions. There were 42,524 diagnosed cases of COVID-19 for New Yorkers under age 45, meaning that the case-fatality rate—again, a seriously high-end estimate, given the fact that asymptomatic people have not been tested—for those with no underlying health conditions below age 45 is 0.06%. In other words, 9,994 out of every 10,000 young, healthy people who get the coronavirus will not die—and the number is likely higher than that.

This means that we should be looking to send young, healthy people back to work, and urging social distancing and isolation for those who are elderly or have preexisting conditions that raise coronavirus risks.
We should retain social distancing for the young and healthy, urge mask-wearing and perform contact tracing when hot spots arise. We should continue to avoid large-scale gatherings. We should urge special vigilance in high-density areas. Localism is our friend here.

But there is a path toward reopening. To ignore it isn’t just foolish, it’s counterproductive.

#3003 (4/19) SUNDAY SPECIAL: [New Journal Personal Update] "The Viral Pandemic of Distrust and Misinformation - Worldview Lessons from the Coronavirus, Part 4"

"THE VIRAL PANDEMIC OF DISTRUST AND MISINFORMATION - WORLDVIEW LESSONS FROM THE CORONAVIRUS, PART 4"John Stonestreet and Shane Morris, Breakpoint.org, 04/17/20; https://www.breakpoint.org/the-viral-pandemic-of-distrust-and-misinformation/
The information age is full of both plusses and minuses, especially during a time of national crisis. Among the blessings we should count is the ability of many of us to work from home, and the ability to stay in touch with people we cannot visit. Another, at least in my line of work, is that so many more of the teachers contributing to our virtual Truth, Love, Together event now know how to use Zoom.

The main minus, though certainly not the only one, is the constant flow of news, headlines, and social media posts, some true and some false, some helpful and some very unhelpful and even misleading. Information comes at us in waves, with conjecture in the place of facts and assertions in the place of arguments. Even before the coronavirus was given the name pandemic, misinformation was passed on by both major media outlets and personal social media accounts. In most of these cases, political ideology masqueraded as certainty about things that were, at the time, unknown, such as how deadly Covid-19 would be, whether or not it was like the flu, and whether scientists and experts were misleading us.

Misleading voices on both the left and the right confidently asserted the virus really wasn’t that bad. More than one conservative talk show host, motivated to keep the President’s wins front and center, compared Covid-19 to the common cold or seasonal flu. And more than a few liberal voices also downplayed the seriousness of Covid-19, apparently hoping to seize an opportunity to portray Trump’s travel restrictions to China as racist or otherwise misguided.

Having now mostly pivoted on the seriousness of the virus across the board, many of the same voices continue with speculations, assertions, and analysis that are proclaimed with all the undeserved confidence as before. After Samaritan’s Purse set up a temporary hospital in Central Park to treat coronavirus patients, The Daily Beast ran a hit-piece warning of “sub-standard care and “discrimination,” chiding the Christian ministry and its president, Franklin Graham, for their allegedly “spotty record.”
Given the actual record of Samaritan’s Purse, the article was pure fear-mongering. Still, it paled in comparison to a horrendous op-ed by Katherine Stewart in the New York Times which blamed evangelicals for “paving the way to coronavirus hell” by “denying science.” She also accused us of looking to faith-healers and miracle cures instead of medical experts. It was vicious, historically ignorant slander, and published in America’s newspaper-of-record.
The Times’ decision to publish such a ridiculous article was not only poor, it’s ironic, given the paper’s commitment to expose fake news and conspiracy theories about the virus. They keep a full list: Covid-19 is caused by 5G cell phone towers. It’s a foreign attack. It’s a plot by Microsoft founder Bill Gates. All ridiculous claims, of course, but no more ridiculous than the Nero-like claim that evangelicals are to blame for this pandemic.

Brad Littlejohn made a key point over at Mere Orthodoxy, “This virus has surely come as a judgment on our divided, post-truth society. Judgment does not merely punish,” he points out, “it reveals…what Covid-19 has revealed in America is a society that has reached a point of crippling mutual incomprehension and distrust…that runs so deep that it leaves few if any shared handholds for common knowledge informing common action.”
At all times, but especially during a pandemic, some degree of common knowledge and common action are essential for a society. How can Christians, people who are to be committed to truth, navigate this (mis)information age? Who is right, who is not, and how do we know? And, how can we be catalysts toward the renewal of a critical national resource: trust?

An essential part of the answer, and an essential part of a Christian worldview, is discernment. According to Paul’s prayer for the church at Philippi, love “abounds” best when accompanied by truth and discernment. And in an information age, discernment is the only true antidote to deception. Eighteenth century British author Samuel Johnson called discernment “the supreme end of education,” before offering the best definition I know of discernment: “the power to tell the good from the bad, the genuine from the counterfeit, and to prefer the good and the genuine to the bad and the counterfeit.”
In other words, discernment involves both wisdom and will. The wisdom to evaluate truth claims, and the will to understand the reality of our fallen world, which includes evaluating truth claims beyond whether or not it will make our side look good and their side look bad. Bearing false witness is a sin, and truth must take precedent over wanting something to be so or not wanting it to be so.
And finally, a necessary ingredient of Christian discernment is confidence in God’s sovereignty. Fear, on the other hand, often spoils discernment.

Discernment won’t end put an end to misinformation overnight, but it can slow its infection rate. And as with the actual pandemic, that could make a world of difference.

The Apostle Paul knew exactly what it was like to be alone, to be deserted by all who called themselves “brothers” and “sisters.” A former colleague who has done considerable travel among the persecuted says, “It is hard to believe that Christians are the largest persecuted group in the world today. But it is even more difficult to believe that this is so seldom mentioned in our gatherings and church services. More Christians know the names of their favorite actors than their fellow believers who are in prison.”
He continues, “With every trip something in my heart breaks as I hear the echoes of suffering:
I remember the echoes of an Egyptian mother as she shared how her young boy was stuck in a haystack because she refused to deny Jesus.
I remember the sounds of weeping as fellow students in Indonesia shared how Sariman, their co-student, was hacked to death.
I remember the cries of anguish as we walked from church to church that was burned to the ground on the island of Lombok.
I remember the tears of Rebecca in Iran as she showed the picture of her father who was stabbed to death for sharing the gospel.
I remember the voice of Pastor Daniel in Vietnam as he shared how he was chained to the ground for six months.
I remember the fear of Grace from Sudan as she shared how her church was attacked and her friend was shot through the head.
Oh, I remember the cries of Caleb in Eritrea as he shared with tears how two dear friends were executed in front of him because of their faith.
And I remember the tears of Joy in the southern Philippines as she shared how her fiancé was shot to death in their church in Mindanao.
But, most all, I remember the deafening sounds of silence every time I return home.
RESPONSE
How can I be silent today? How can I not speak on behalf of those who suffer? How can I desert those that belong to the same body that I belong to and who desperately need the encouragement of my intervention?.

#3002 (4/18) PRO-LIFE SAT: "Trump Sends Funds Meant for Pro-Abortion WHO to Samaritan’s Purse, Red Cross to Fight Coronavirus"

"TRUMP SENDS FUNDS MEANT FOR PRO-ABORTION WHO TO SAMARITAN'S PURSE, RED CROSS TO FIGHGT CORONAVIRUS" - Steven Ertelt, APR 17, 2020| https://www.lifenews.com/2020/04/17/trump-sends-funds-meant-for-pro-abortion-who-to-samaritans-purse-red-cross-to-fight-coronavirus/
Earlier this week, President Donald Trump halted federal taxpayer funding for the WHO, the international agency that has botched its response to the coronavirus. WHO has been accused of lying to the world about the coronavirus, defending Chinese propaganda about its origins, and it has come under fire for saying killing babies in abortions is somehow an essential procedure as the world deals with the coronavirus pandemic. Trump announced Tuesday that the U.S. will halt monetary contributions to the World Health Organization while the administration reviews the mistakes it made managing the pandemic.

Now, president Trump has announced where the funds will be going instead — to two organizations fighting the coronavirus: Samaritan’s Purse and the Red Cross. The White House budget office has told federal agencies to redirect World Health Organization funds to groups that do similar work, indicating a 60-day suspension of WHO funding ordered by President Trump will be permanent.
The funds will flow instead to outfits such as the Red Cross and Samaritan’s Purse after Trump said Tuesday the WHO needed reform after failing to vet coronavirus data from China, contributing to a pandemic that infected more than 650,000 US residents.
The US provided roughly 10 percent of the WHO’s $4.8 billion annual budget. Most US contributions were “voluntary.” Annual US dues were just $58 million, with the next installment not expected until September. An administration official told The Post that efforts were underway to redirect “every single pot of money” from the WHO to other organizations. Large international relief organizations already are in many cases doing similar work, they said.

The funding battle is likely not over, as Democrats will likely challenge Trump and attempt to stick WHO funding in future spending bills. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Wednesday vowed to challenge what she called Trump’s “illegal” suspension of WHO funds but did not specify how. The White House argues there’s no legal obligation to fund the WHO.

But White House officials defended Trump’s decision: “If you pay a contractor to build you a house and the roof falls in, you don’t keep paying them, you find a new contractor,” the official told the Daily Caller. “WHO clearly failed to do its job, and continues to make serious mistakes that puts our nation’s safety and security at risk, including allowing the reopening of wet markets. It shouldn’t be controversial for the U.S. to want to partner with international organizations that will actually protect international health.”

China, who started the pandemic, ponied up a paltry $20 million,” a senior Trump administration official told The Post. “They refuse to pay even 3 percent into the world fund to respond to the virus that their own actions caused to spread rapidly outside of their country. That’s shocking and a disgrace.” “With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have deep concerns whether America’s generosity has been put to the best use possible,” Trump said during his daily White House briefing where he announced the WHO funding cut. “Our country will be forced to find other ways to work with other nations to achieve public health goals,” he said.
“The reality is that the WHO failed to adequately obtain, vet, and share information in a timely and transparent fashion,” he said. [italics and colored emphasis mine]

The WHO received heavy criticism earlier this month when it falsely claimed abortion is considered an essential service during the coronavirus pandemic. It said that “services related to reproductive health are considered to be part of essential services during the COVID-19 outbreak.” “Women’s choices and rights to sexual and reproductive health care should be respected, irrespective of whether or not she has a suspected or confirmed COVID-19 infection,” WHO said in the statement. Medical groups representing over 33,000 doctors disagree.
Meanwhile, United Nations leaders are pushing through a $2 billion spending plan for the coronavirus that includes funding to abort unborn babies in elective abortions based on WHO recommendations. “Women’s choices and rights to sexual and reproductive health care should be respected irrespective of COVID-19 status, including access to contraception and safe abortion to the full extent of the law,” the WHO manual reads, after pointing out that there are no known complications related to pregnancy from the novel coronavirus.
Last week, a WHO staffer said the WHO has been working to ensure abortion drugs are considered “essential”during a webinar hosted by a pro-abortion journal. She praised abortion groups urging governments to designate abortion “essential.” She also promoted the WHO’s official view that where access to abortion is difficult, women should self-administer abortions.

America gives huge amounts of money to the United Nations. However, President Donald Trump and his administration have been pushing back aggressively against the United Nations’ pro-abortion agenda, insisting that countries support women and children, born and unbornIn 2017, Trump stopped giving tax dollars to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) because it pushes abortions on other countries and has worked with China for decades to implement its forced abortion population control policies. Trump renewed the order again in 2018 and 2019. The decision cut $32.5 million in funding from the UNFPA budget.
Still, it appears that more needs to be done. Abortion groups receive funding from many different sources, both government and private; and cutting off taxpayer funding to abortions entirely is not easily done. And while the Trump administration has been working to restore a culture of life at the United Nations, there are many other countries and activists trying to do the exact opposite.

There is nothing essential about aborting an unborn baby. Abortions destroy unborn babies’ lives and often put their mothers at risk. The world’s response to the coronavirus pandemic has been to devote huge amounts of resources and sacrifice greatly to save human lives. If only society would make similar efforts to save babies in the womb.

Campaign against church in Algeria continues- The government continues its campaign against the church in Algeria. Police entered one of the largest churches in Algeria (about 700 members), the Full Gospel Church in Tizi Ouzou, as Pastor Salah was leading a church service. The police ordered the congregation to leave and pushed those who resisted out of the building. Authorities beat Pastor Salah and church members. Pastor Salah shared prayer requests with us: “I ask the worldwide Church to pray that the Lord will be with us during this hardship. I
hope you will pray like the prayer in Acts 4.
