#3288 (4/110) "Americans Must Never Throw in the Towel"

"AMERICANS MUST NEVER THROW IN THE TOWEL" - David Limbaugh: Apr 02, 2021; Americans Must Never Throw in the Towel by David Limbaugh (townhall.com)

As we survey our rotting cultural and political landscape, it is tempting, from a worldly perspective, to lose hope for our way of life and our nation. As Christians, we have a greater Hope, one that transcends these worldly problems.

We must always train our focus on Jesus Christ, especially during this holiest of weeks, but let's not in the meantime abandon our earthly duties -- our responsibilities to family, friends, country and values. While we must guard against making politics and patriotism our idols, we don't have to accept the notion that worshiping God requires neglecting what is true, great and good in our earthly lives. A spiritual war is raging before our eyes, and we must suit up against it -- unless our lives on this side of eternity are utterly pointless. I'll never believe God placed us on Earth to be indifferent to life here, to surrender the reins to forces of evil because a better world awaits us. Our Founding Fathers certainly didn't believe that either.

But to properly and competently fight for our values, we must do more than just mouth the observation that we're in a spiritual war. We must embrace it in our very souls, because it is true as any concrete reality we can verify with our five senses. We must embrace it because we are going to need other-worldly courage to face the whirlwind forces of evil and untruth that have possessed our culture; that have brainwashed half our nation; and that threaten to finally destroy America as we know and love it, and as it was founded -- a land of unsurpassed religious and political liberty.

Warriors of evil are cleverly disguised as warriors for truth, justice, harmony and love, their immoral causes masked as noble. They stir unrest and provoke disharmony in our society in the name of peace and unity. They actively sour race and gender relations while pretending to heal us. They promote hate in the cause of eradicating it. And they silence and suppress all opposing views and "unwoke" behavior in their self-appointed yet deceitful role as guardians of an enlightened culture.

These forces have monopolistic control over our cultural, academic and social media institutions, and competing views are not just censored but actively demonized. Their sociopolitical message is monolithic and permits no dissent. Our universities are indoctrination factories, and Hollywood is a propaganda machine for the leftist worldview. The social media oligarchy actively promotes that worldview and attempts to erase any competing ideas it perceives as a threat to its message.

Just when you think things couldn't get crazier, you read that teachers from San Diego Unified School District are now allowed to teach migrant children from Central America in person in the classroom while denying American children that privilege. And that students and faculty at the University of Vermont's College of Education and Social Services targeted Dr. Aaron Kindsvatter, a counseling professor, for posting a video lamenting the growth of what he describes as a dangerous and discriminatory ideology that blames society's ills on "whiteness."

The prevailing narrative spewing from our toxic cultural spigots is that America is systemically racist, that the concept of racial colorblindness as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. envisioned is a tool to further "white supremacy," and that all members of certain races are irredeemably racist, irrespective of their individual hearts and conduct. Conveniently, the proposed solutions for these problems are perpetual, unquenchable acts of atonement and radical redistributions of wealth through a transformation of our capitalistic system into a central planner's dream.

Even certain promising politicians disappoint -- those you trust will fight back against such noxious ideas as allowing biological men identifying as women to destroy women's athletics and the hopes and dreams of women athletes to accommodate woke culture's demand that one's right to identify as a certain sex must trump everything, no matter the personal and societal causalities.

At a time when the integrity of our electoral system is under dire threat from undemocratic forces, self-styled champions of "democracy" press for federal legislation to unconstitutionally impose uniform rules on the states that would forever compromise our democratic processes and election integrity. The level of deceit, here as in so many other areas, is staggering.

Isn't it sobering and surreal that we even have a debate over whether we have a right -- and duty -- to protect our borders against invasion from migrants, traffickers and cartels? That we have powerful people arguing that the border enforcement officials and the police need to be defunded?

Meanwhile, our political class has become the chief enemy of fiscal sanity and economic reality. Washington menaces are proposing multitrillion-dollar programs with Monopoly money and imperiling our kids' financial future to allegedly stimulate an economy they are forcefully smothering with their draconian lockdown rules. [italics and colored emphasis mine]

If all this weren't bad enough and incontrovertible evidence of this nation's death wish, we see half of our society glorifying the killing of unborn babies, and we witness rapper Lil Nas X's "Satan Shoes" being sold out in less than a minute precisely because of, not despite, their satanic imagery.

Let us worship God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. But let's not abdicate our duty to fight those who would usher in hell on Earth.

#3287 (4/10) PRO-LIFE SAT: "Joe Biden and Kamala Harris Want ERA Approved to Make Abortion a Constitutional Right"

"JOE BIDEN AND KAMALA HARRIS WANT ERA APPROVED TO MAKE ABORTION A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT" -   Sen. James Inhoff  and Sen. Cindy Hyde Smith,  APR 6, 2021   |  Joe Biden and Kamala Harris Want ERA Approved to Make Abortion a Constitutional Right | LifeNews.com

When President Biden and Vice President Harris were sworn into office, there was a grand celebration by pro-abortion groups. They see the Biden-Harris administration as their chance to dramatically expand access to abortion on demand. How? In multiple ways, not the least of which is through the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). Recently, House Democrats pushed through a resolution to remove the deadline Congress gave states in 1972 to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. Clearly, they didn’t care that it is the view of the Department of Justice that such action isn’t permissible and that a district court ruled earlier this month that the deadline has firmly expired.

They claim that they are trying to resurrect the ERA – even if their actions are unconstitutional – to promote women’s empowerment, to fight discrimination and to create greater protections for women against assault, harassment and gender-based violence. These are noble causes, but we don’t need the ERA to complete them. Women are protected from discrimination under the law through the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, which says no state shall deny any person within its jurisdiction equal protection under the law. That’s pretty strong – and pretty clear as well. But just in case, women’s rights are also protected by the Equal Pay Act of 1963, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978 and more.

The original advocates for the ERA believed it was also necessary so women could have greater access to higher education, access to banking and lending resources to start their own businesses, and to provide greater protections against domestic violence and gender-based violence. Yet, without the ERA, women today are attending college at higher rates than men and nearly 40% of U.S. businesses are women-owned. There are 114% more female entrepreneurs today than there were just 20 years ago.

Furthermore, while we can always do more to protect women from domestic violence or other gender-based violence, enacting the ERA could actually harm the protections that celebrate the differences between men and women in law – threatening women-only prisons, locker rooms, and Title IX protections for women’s sports, just to name a few.

So, acknowledging all that, why do the Democrats still want to ratify the ERA? The National Organization for Women (NOW) revealed its true goal when it announced: “an ERA – properly interpreted – could negate the hundreds of laws that have been passed restricting access to abortion care and contraception.” Ah. There it is. Lest you think this is a single position, NARAL wrote in a national alert that, “With its ratification, the ERA would reinforce the constitutional right to abortion by clarifying that the sexes have equal rights, which would require judges to strike down anti-abortion laws…”

Democrats need a new reason to defend their radical efforts to destroy innocent lives – and they are hiding that cause under the guise of women’s rights. What they are really saying is enacting the ERA as a constitutional amendment would kill the numerous pro-life policies that each year continue to give a voice to the voiceless and protect the millions of unborn children – including women, the very population this amendment deceptively purports to protect.

They know they have to do this because they are losing the fight on abortion on demand through science. Remember: Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey were clear that access to abortion was not an absolute right – and is based on a standard of fetal viability, on which science has made great strides since 1973. Science has progressed so far in advancing the viability of tiny unborn lives that Jennifer Weiss-Wolf, vice president of the Brennan Center for Justice said, “…even the technical, technological underpinnings of [Roe] always seemed likely to expire… Technology was always going to move us to a place where the trimester framework didn’t make sense…”  Furthermore, this does not address the fact that, regardless of technological advances, an individual’s level of development should have nothing to do with whether that individual is deemed worthy to live – every person has inherent worth and value, no matter how young or how old.

Clearly, Democrats need a new reason to defend their radical efforts to destroy innocent lives – and they are hiding that cause under the guise of women’s rights. Let’s stop using spin and acknowledge the three key truths.

First – that men and women are equal under the law in our Constitution.

Second – we can always do more to promote equality and end discrimination for all Americans, but the way to do that isn’t through divisive constitutional amendments.

And, finally, we must stop pretending that the right for all unborn children to live is in opposition to women’s equality. Otherwise, we are doing a huge disservice to our society and killing generations yet to be born.

#3286 (4/9) "Why Compromising With The Equality Act Falls Short"

"WHY COMPROMISING WITH THE EQUALITY ACT FALLS SHORT" - John Stonestreet and Timothy D Padgett, Breakpoint.org, 04/8/21; https://breakpoint.org/compromising-with-the-equality-act

The most recent incarnation of the Equality Act is also the most radical version we have yet seen. It’s worth noting as well that it’s closer to becoming law than any version so far put forward.

As a friend of mine would say, this isn’t magic; it’s math. This Congressional term, the Equality Act passed the House of Representatives. Though unlikely at this point, a 50-50 tie in the Senate broken by a Democratic White House is feasible, making the Equality Act a live option. Last year, it simply wasn’t. Who knows what the next round of midterms will do to these numbers?

In light of the very real threat posed by the Equality Act, a number of Christians have offered compromise solutions, most notably the Fairness for All Act. FFA would carve out exemptions for churches and certain religious organizations, though it’s unclear which ones, but it would not protect the religious freedoms of private Christian citizens who are medical professionals, business owners, bakers, florists, photographers, and so on.

These attempts to preserve legislatively whatever religious freedoms we can, while well-intentioned, are, in reality, premature attempts at deal-making. Tactically unwise, such compromise solutions will almost certainly make things more difficult in the future. Rather than carving out a place for Christians in an increasingly hostile culture, this appeasement shrinks the space available to believers, both now and in the future.

Even so, political gamesmanship is only part of the problem with compromise solutions such as Fairness for All. In fact, there are at least three reasons not only to oppose just the Equality Act but all attempts to compromise in its direction.

First, the Equality Act, even in a compromised form, says what is not true about the human person. Specifically, the Equality Act suggests that when it comes to human beings, questions of sexual and gender identity are equivalent to categories of race and ethnicity. In other words, something largely determined by behavioral choice and personal expression is treated as an essential characteristic of a person. (Though in the past, LGB advocates may have used the “born this way” argument to explain sexual identity, that argument does not serve the new letter, T, in the acronym. Therefore, it has been largely abandoned). Attempts to compromise with the Equality Act not only affirm this same, false way of thinking about who we are for everyone else but “us,” it relegates Christian belief in this area to subjective personal opinion.

Second, by hijacking the history and categories of the Civil Rights movement, the Equality Act says things that are not true about the plight of those who are LGBT. The Civil Rights Act ensured that African Americans could participate in civil society, at a time when they could not fully do so. Decades ago, for example, an African American family could not easily take a cross country trip since so many hotels, gas stations, and restaurants refused service. Effectively, an entire segment of the population was excluded from society.

This is not the case for LGBT people. When Jack Phillips refused to bake a cake celebrating a “same-sex marriage” (in a state that, at the time, didn’t even recognize “same-sex marriage”) dozens of bakeries nearby would have gladly taken the business. To compare the refusal to participate in a same-sex marriage or a “gender affirming” surgery with the Jim Crow South is obviously false, given the wide availability of services in any of these arenas. In fact, this reveals the Equality Act for what it is — an attempt to force citizens to comply with the government’s point of view.

This brings up a third way in which attempts to compromise with the Equality Act fail. Compromise solutions wish to protect ministers and Christian institutions from being forced to comply with the government’s point of view, but everyone else is left entirely unprotected. While advocates of compromise might say we should secure whatever protections we can, we ought not stand for anything short of the full dignity and full rights every human possesses to hold to and live by their deeply held convictions.

As Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn wrote decades ago, we don’t have to join every protest or hold every sign. However, at the very least, we must not say what is not true. Thus, even for a good cause, we cannot lend voices in support of our culture’s falsehoods about what it means to be human. And, we should tell our religious and political leaders not to, either.

#3285 (4/8) "Preparing To Be A Greeter At the Gates of Heaven?!!!

PREPARING TO BE A GREETER AT THE GATES OF HEAVEN?!!! - April 8, 2021. What a great Easter weekend! 1) It started last Saturday when I had my first shift that did not involve the Seafood department where I have worked for the almost 4 1/2 years I've been at the store. I was assigned to be at the front of the store to wipe down carts when they were returned from the parking lot so that it would be clean of any COVID bacteria for customers to use them. When I asked others who had done the job what it was like, they told me how boring it was when things were very slow. Well, God blessed me with a very busy day before Easter and there was a steady stream of customers. As soon as I reported for my shift, I just got into a zone and began greeting people with enthusiasm as they entered the store and even as they left the store. (I'm not aware of others with this job having done the same thing till now.)

As I found myself really enjoying doing that, I began to reflect why I the work was such a good fit for me. God suddenly reminded me of how decades ago I had seen a news story about a Wal-Mart greeter and told myself that I would enjoy doing that. Of course, I was quite disappointed when I learned that Wal-Mart had discontinued such a position and I gave up on the dream I had had those many years ago. And so Saturday's job assignment was just my instinctive response to having an opportunity to do what I had once wanted to do. And I had so much fun!

There were some memorable highlights - especially the look of appreciation I saw on many customers faces at being acknowledged and welcomed. I laugh every time I recall the times I was so excited that, rather than saying "Welcome to Publix" I blurted out "Welcome to WAL-MART" to which only one customer looked back to give me a double take. It was also the first time I recall an assistant manager coming back twice to where I was to commend me for the job I was doing!

As I've had a chance to reflect further on that time on Saturday, I've wondered if there will be a job for a greeter at the gathering of believers at our temporary heaven before Christ returns (as described in the book of Revelation in the Bible. I can see how I would have a great time after I get there greeting people who come after me and welcoming them! I just picture myself standing at the entrance with each of my three pet cats on either side of me, greeting people as they arrive. How much fun will that be!

2) Then on the next day - Easter Sunday - the house church I've been attending for several years now had a special Easter service at a business office. I was there early as I had come with my pastor. Everyone there was busy doing something to prepare for the service and I wasn't sure what I could do to help. Suddenly I saw my opportunity and went to the front door and standing there began greeting the people as they arrived. Once again, FUN!

What about YOU? Have you been given a task that looks boring or seems to not have much significance? Trust God that somehow He has called you- at work, at school, in your church, wherever -possibly meant to prepare you for serving Him in Heaven. No, trust me, we won't be sitting on any cloud and simply playing a harp; no way! The God who created the universe in 6 days could never be a part of doing anything boring. What's in store for us to do in Heaven is sure to be in line up with what He has us doing while in this life. He has not gifted us to be who we are just to have us set it aside when we finally arrive there. No way! Nothing God does is wasted and not part of His larger plan for us. And not just NOT boring, I believe, but something FUN! That goes with what I believe Heaven will be like - a place of inexpressible JOY for every believer from the moment they arrive. I don't know about you, but I can't wait!

#3284 (4/7 " 1 in 3 Americans Are Watching Less Sports. Blame ‘Social Justice’ Preaching."

"1 IN 3 AMERICANS ARE WATCHING LESS SPORTS. BLAME 'SOCIAL JUSTICE' PREACHING" -Douglas Blair / April 06, 2021; https://www.dailysignal.com/2021/04/06/1-in-3-americans-are-watching-less-sports-blame-social-justice-preaching/ [ AS I SEE IT: This article confirms what I've long believed - I'm not alone among Americans in being fed up with professional sports figures and owners using their sport to make political stands. It's why I haven't watched ANY professional sport game since Colin Kapernick first began his divisive actions. (I was a 49er football fan for many decades but NO MORE!] And note, it's almost never  those taking a conservative view of the culture that causes people to be divided; it's almost always those on the Left! (At least the Left has left golf alone but I've never been a golf fan.) My only solace has been that these divisive actions are almost always limited to the professional sports. What a sad day if they also infect the college sports games. Lord help us! - Stan]

Megan Rapinoe—seen here celebrating after scoring the U.S. team's second goal during the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup quarter-final match between France and the U.S. on June 28, 2019, in Paris—is among the high-profile athletes who have commingled left-wing politics and sports. (Photo: Richard Heathcote/Getty Images)

When former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick first took a knee during the national anthem in 2016, something snapped in the cultural landscape. The act proved to be a flash point, sharply dividing Americans along two distinct battle lines. One side defended Kaepernick as a hero, bravely standing against a racist system oppressing minorities. The other viewed the act as a form of disrespect toward the country that gave him so much.

Kaepernick would not be the last athlete to attempt to use his or her celebrity status to push a political agenda. Soccer star Megan Rapinoe has dedicated herself to crusading for “equal pay” for women, the underlying premise of which Heritage Foundation experts have proven to be false. NBA star LeBron James is now a pundit on everything from China to racism.

According to a new poll, all this political posturing and preaching is starting to have actual consequences for professional sports. Yahoo News and YouGov report that nearly 35% of Americans have started to watch less sports expressly due to woke social justice messaging. It turns out people don’t like being lectured while they watch football, basketball, or other sports.

In the past, sports acted as a place for people to come together. Liberals and conservatives could unite over their shared love for a game, or cheer for their favorite team, regardless of political affiliation. But as the left continues to corrupt each facet of American public life, professional sports have become yet another battlefield in the ongoing culture wars.

When Mark Cuban, owner of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, announced his intentions to stop playing the national anthem before home games, there was mass pushback from the right and big praise from the left. The national anthem, a song meant to unite the vast and disparate people of the country together under one banner, suddenly has become controversial.

The decision Friday by Major League Baseball to pull the All-Star Game out of Georgia to protest reforms to improve election integrity also shows how much sway the left holds over our culture. Major League Baseball is virtue signaling by moving the game out of Atlanta based on faulty logic that the election reforms are a form of voter suppression, but then moving it to Denver, in Colorado, which also has voter ID laws, but which didn’t make headlines.

That’s not to say that sports cannot carry political messaging. Jesse Owens, a black man, won four gold medals in the 1936 Olympic Games hosted by Hitler’s Nazi Germany in direct defiance of the evil race-based ideology driving the fascist state. The act was inherently political and unified Americans in their values.Owens was American, not a Republican or a Democrat. That was all that mattered.

In a world already full of things that divide us, the loss of even a single square foot of common ground can be devastating. But that Yahoo News/YouGov poll does bring a sense of hope. As conservatives—and, just as likely, fatigued centrists—begin to express their dissatisfaction at the woke ideology in sports, there may be hope for other industries as well. Might we begin to see pushback at the woke scolds currently dominating Hollywood, the music and advertising industries, and more corporate boardrooms?

Legendary NBA player Michael Jordan was once asked why he wasn’t more vocal about his political views. His response? “Republicans buy shoes, too.” As sports teams and their owners begin to reassess their strategies in response to a drop in viewership, that observation should serve as a guide. Conservatives are still here, and we still buy shoes.

A vision for sub-Saharan Africa. Christians across sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) encounter pressure each day, including high levels of persistent, targeted violence fueled by an extremist agenda to spread radical Islam. Attacks leave the most vulnerable Christians destitute, with dire consequences for individuals and the Church at large. Open Doors’ vision is to help these believers remain resilient and ensure they can live fruitfully—courageously sharing the gospel in the face of persecution.

April 7 - Pray governments will find constructive ways to protect their people against terrorist attacks. April 6 - Please pray for women and children who often are left even more vulnerable through attacks. Pray God will show mercy.
