--------------------------------------------------------------------------------   "'Man of Steel' - A Christ Figure at the Movies," by Eric Metaxas: June 20, 2013 http://www.breakpoint.org/bpcommentaries/breakpoint-commentaries-archive/entry/13/22555?spMailingID=6392409&spUserID=MTMyMjM2ODE5OQS2&spJobID=76308973&spReportId=NzYzMDg5NzMS1

'Man of Steel’ leaps box office in single bound” was how USA Today characterized the news that director Zach Snyder’s take on Superman, the most-enduring of all superheroes, raked in $113.1 million last weekend. That’s an all-time record for a movie opening during the month of June. The previous record was held by “Toy Story 3.”

Far more interesting than the box office numbers, however, is the story being told, a story that should resonate with Christians. Like the Superman movies of the late seventies, Snyder’s telling of the story does not obscure the oft-noted parallels between Superman and Christ. In the 1978 version directed by Richard Donner, Jor-El, Superman’s father, tells him “I have sent them” (that is, humanity) “you, my only son.” With “Man of Steel,” Snyder sees Donner and raises him. Without giving too much away, Snyder’s Superman is thirty-three years old; his birth was, if not miraculous, definitely out-of-the-ordinary; and a chunk of his life between age 12 and his early thirties is passed over in silence. As one critic disapprovingly put it, the film’s creators “don’t dramatize the analogy [to Christ], they presume it.”

Let’s be clear: “Man of Steel” is a superhero movie, which means there are plenty of action sequences, some of which seem to go on too long. But it’s also, believe it or not, a story about vocation. Once he learns his true identity and why he was sent to Earth—to save us from ourselves—Superman has to decide if he will do his father’s will despite the risk of rejection. That’s “father” with a small “f.” This is not the story of Christ, after all. But it is a story that brings to mind what Flannery O’Connor once wrote about her native South: “While the South is hardly Christ-centered, it is most certainly Christ-haunted.”

Likewise, while our culture is even less Christ-centered than the South of the 1950s or early 60s, it is also haunted by the One who came down from heaven. Our books and movies are filled with “Christ figures,” characters whose actions bring to mind Jesus. As my friend Barbara Nicolosi, the founder of Act One, a screenwriting program for Christians, has noted, “the notion of the ‘Christ figure’ early on became a cinematic archetype.”

As someone who came down from the heavens and whose true identity is a mystery to his contemporaries, Superman may be the quintessential Christ figure in American popular culture. This may be why attempts to give him an “edge” have failed. Take “Superman Returns” from 2006, in which Superman was depicted, in Nicolosi’s words, as an “angst-ridden small town guy who’s obsessed with a girl . . . and then becomes a deadbeat dad.” As you might guess, that movie sank without a trace. Similarly, Superman is one of the few characters in popular culture who is unreservedly good. To quote Nicolosi again, “stories are supposed to be better than real life.” Too often, what we get are stories and characters that are, if anything, even worse than the people in the theater seats.

A colleague of mine, who saw the movie just this past weekend, plans on taking his teenage son to see “Man of Steel” and then to discuss the parallels between Superman and Christ, and other themes in the film. You might think about doing the same. I plan to do the same with my daughter. In fact, to help you talk to your kids about the movie, we’ve prepared some discussion questions. You might want to use them at youth group or perhaps at your home group. Please come to BreakPoint.org and click on this commentary. We’ll even link you to some reviews of the movie you might find helpful.

"Speak Out Boldly! - MoralityInAmericaStanding Firm in Your Faith" - By Linda Gilden  http://presidentialprayerteam.com/morality-in-america

When James Madison drafted the Bill of Rights in the late eighteenth century he had no idea that hundreds of years later, freedom of speech would be a frequent topic of debate in schools, businesses, and universities. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution gives all Americans the freedom to express themselves through speech, in writing, or through the arts.

Recently, during high school and university graduation ceremonies, several young Americans exercised their First Amendment freedoms by challenging school prohibitions on what can and can’t be said during graduation speeches. As graduates stepped to the microphone – ready to proudly declare their faith in a country that was founded on religious freedom – they were chastised by school officials.
Liberty High School valedictorian, Richard Costner spoke at the Pickens County, South Carolina, graduation ceremony and told his classmates that although he had a speech that had been approved, he was choosing to recite the Lord’s Prayer instead. He began with the words, “Those that we look up to, they have helped carve and mold us into the young adults we are today. I’m so glad that both of my parents led me to the Lord at a young age.” There were cheers and applause from the crowd as Costner delivered his revised graduation speech. Why? Costner’s actions came in response to the school district in question recently changing their policy and banning prayer from school functions. His defiant choice to recite the Lord’s Prayer stirred many comments from onlookers but didn’t lead to any disciplinary action.

Meanwhile, at a high school in Joshua, Texas valedictorian Remington Reimer’s microphone was cut off after he deviated from his preapproved speech to instead talk about the Constitution. A fellow graduate, Colin Radford, noted that the day before, Reimer had talked about getting his Constitutional Right to free speech taken away from him. The Joshua Independent School District had already released a statement that if any student began to speak about anything that was not preapproved, he or she would have their microphone silenced. Both Costner and Reimer were willing to take a stance for what they believed in. Both had strong convictions that prompted them to ignore the rules of their respective school boards, knowing that deviating from their approved speeches could have consequences.

America’s founding fathers set forth biblical principles in drafting both the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights. One of those principles was freedom of speech. Of course, this liberty was never meant to include obscenity, defamation and similar expression, but does protect speeches such as those given by Costner and Reimer. In John 8:32 Jesus says “and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” True freedom comes in knowing the truth. For Costner and Reimer, freedom was only available if they spoke the truth at their graduations. And the truth they embraced reflected strong biblical values and serve as a strong example to adults of all ages, who are sometimes silent when they should speak up.

But what about you? You may be far beyond your college graduation years. You may not be involved with schools or other government agencies. Do you still have problems with those who don’t agree with your views becoming critical or mocking you? At a young age, you were most likely taught to be considerate and respectful of others, which is a good thing. But the byproduct of that consideration and respect is that you may sometimes hesitate to speak up when you disagree, even in matters pertaining to biblical truth. When you feel that hesitation in your heart:
  • Ask God to remove the fear and give you the boldness to speak up. Pray first before speaking
  • Ask God to fill your heart with love for the person you are speaking to. Let them see the freedom of Christ in you
  • Stand with Paul as he wrote in 1 Corinthians 16:13, “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong”

"'This Baby is Not Going to Survive,' Mom Rejects Pressure for Abortion," by Steven Ertelt | Wellington, New Zealand | LifeNews.com | 6/20/13 http://www.lifenews.com/2013/06/20/this-baby-is-not-going-to-survive-mom-rejects-pressure-for-abortion/

A mother in New Zealand has rejected calls from her doctor and medical professionals to have an abortion of her disabled baby.At 16 weeks of pregnancy, the young woman was told by doctors that her unborn baby would only live for a short time after she was born. The New Zealand Herald has more details:
Three medical experts urged her mum, Toni Alexander, to terminate the pregnancy. Instead, the family researched and drew hope from similar cases. At 32 weeks, baby Ava was born with a relatively common horseshoe kidney. Now the family want answers.
Tauranga mum Toni was told at her 16-week scan that one side of her baby’s brain was growing faster than the other. A further scan showed there was no amniotic fluid around the baby. Toni, 19, was diagnosed with PPROM – preterm premature rupture of membranes.
PPROM affects two in every 100 pregnancies. It causes the loss of amniotic fluid rich in the protein, carbohydrates, lipids and urea a growing fetus needs to survive.
“We were told if the baby did survive it would live for a short time after birth before passing away,” Toni, now 21, said.  “They said there was no hope – they said ‘this baby is going to die’.” The family were told scans showed no Nasal or facial bones, missing organs and undeveloped lungs. The scans missed the horse-shoe kidney. Specialists at Waikato Hospital sent Toni away with information on the recommended termination. But Toni ignored the advice.
Michelle Kauffman of Family Life International New Zealand applauded her courage.
At a time when prenatal screening is routine, this story (and the countless more that are similar), should serve as a warning for medical professionals, for parents and for families.  All too often, a prenatal diagnosis of an impairment, disability or life-limiting condition ends in abortion. Often this is because of pressure from the medical experts, from a lack of information about the conditions and a fear of the unknown.
But Baby Ava’s story shows that sometimes doctors get it wrong. And even if they don’t get it wrong, why is the answer abortion? Motherhood begins at the moment new life is conceived.  Mothers love, they protect, they nurture their children.  Toni, has shown mothers everywhere, who face the unknown, how to do this courageously.

"Limbaugh: Abortion at Root of Much of America's Ills,"17 Jun 2013,  By Greg Richter  http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/rush-limbaugh-abortion-impact/2013/06/17/id/510393?s=al&promo_code=13DC2-1

Much of the cultural and economic decay facing America can be traced to the more than 50 million abortions performed since the 1972 Roe v. Wade decision, Rush Limbaugh says. And the current push for legal status for illegal immigrants is a result of needing to replace the aborted, Limbaugh said.

"Fifty-two million taxpayers haven't been born, is the way Washington looks at it," Limbaugh said on his radio show on Friday. "They don't look at it morally. They don't look at it in any kind of cultural way or any kind of cultural impact. They just say … we have 52 million fewer people paying taxes. We gotta replace 'em. Hello, amnesty."

But beyond that, abortion has had a role in destroying society, Limbaugh said. Most people see abortion simply as a woman's right to choose, he said, but the impact has been much wider. "It's had an impact on crime. It's had a profound impact on our politics. It is at the root of our cultural rot and decay."

Limbaugh said no one wants to accept responsibility for his or her actions anymore. "And I'm not talking about the women," he said. "I'm talking the overall effect of a society having literally no problem with eliminating 52 million of its citizens. That can't be good." Limbaugh noted that Americans still feel guilt over slavery, yet aren't bothered by abortion.

"I think it is the cause of so much that seems to be inexplicable to people," he said. "Why are 10-year-olds shooting each other to death in Chicago? Why is our society so permissive, anything goes, the more ribald, the better? The more honorable, the more boring it is said to be."

[NOTEIf you have not already, you might want to read through YESTERDAY'S post #555 which this post comments and expands on.]

I hope you heard Eric Metaxas on yesterday’s BreakPoint. I’ve come to know Eric quite well, and I could feel his anguish over the administration’s ridiculous decision not to fight a judge’s ruling to allow girls of any age to get the morning-after pill over the counter, even without parental permission. Well, I’ve got three daughters myself, and I share his outrage about this clear assault on families. As Eric made so clear, it’s putting our daughters in danger. It enables the exploitation of women, especially minors. We have every right as Americans and Christians to fight for laws that protect our children, and against laws that harm them.

But make no mistake: We shouldn’t be surprised that the government wants to allow our daughters to access chemically-induced abortions. And it’s not just because pro-abortion forces are entrenched in government and in left-of-center politics. Something else is going on, something Chuck Colson and others have warned us about for years.

The only thing that stands between the individual and a power-hungry government are what is known as “intermediate institutions.” Churches, civic associations, clubs, business groups, and especially families, are all institutions that claim a certain level of allegiance from individuals, and help us govern ourselves.  As Alexis de Tocqueville noted in his masterful Democracy in America, they provide the best protection from an over-reaching government.
But when those institutions—especially the family--abandon their responsibility, the government is only too happy to step in. Too many parents have ceded their responsibility to disciple, educate, feed, train and care for their children to others, especially the government. The government has been talking to our kids about sex for years. So it’s not that difficult to see why they would think they have the prerogative to “fix” the consequences of that behavior also.

I’m not saying government is bad: it’s not, it’s biblically ordained for a specific purpose. And Chuck described that purpose a few years ago: “I’ve said it until I’m blue in the face,” he said, “and I’ll say it until I’m purple: The biblical view of the role of government is to preserve order, restrain evil, and promote justice. Government has no legitimate interest in running car companies, the healthcare industry, or taking over student loans.” And I’ll add, it has no business giving our children access—over parental objection—to drugs that can harm them.

But whatever government does or doesn’t do, it is our responsibility to raise our children in the knowledge and love of God. And we must not allow anyone to take over that territory God has entrusted to us. Our children must hear from us God’s plan for their life, including His plan for their sexuality. And they must know why it’s so different than the government’s plan for their life.

Now, some of you may think that I’m being naive. In fact, not long ago, we received a letter from a BreakPoint listener, a Christian, who objected to our objections to public schools allowing Planned Parenthood to teach students about so-called “safe sex.” Kids are going to engage in sex no matter what, the listener wrote, so they’d better understand how to protect themselves, and we’re foolish to think otherwise.

My heart sank when I read that letter. How dare we allow the government to redefine the worth, and value of our children according to such low expectations? The Holy Spirit’s hands are not tied; our children can live holy lives, despite the culture—and despite their hormones. It takes a lot of love and a lot of support and a lot of faith in Jesus. And yes, they may fall into sin. But I will not allow them to be defined according to those failures either. We must build trust with them now so they’ll know we, not a pharmacist and not the government, are their number-one source for help when they are in trouble. They must know beyond a shadow of a doubt that we love them, even when they make mistakes.

Thanks for listening. And if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to have a chat with my daughters.

BP-Takeaction_61913Time to Talk: The Government, the Pill, and Our Daughters - Next Steps - When is the last time you talked to your teenage daughter (or son) about God’s plan for her sexuality? If it’s been a while, or if you haven’t had that talk, now’s the time, because there is no doubt the culture encourages and even pressures our children into sexual activity. You can also talk about why the government’s decision to make the morning-after pill available to girls of all ages is a mistake—not just for kids, but for families as well. A great conversation resource is John's CD, The Talk, linked below.

And we can still make our voices heard on Capitol Hill. Use the link below to send an electronic letter to your congressmen. Ask them to introduce a bill to keep the morning-after pill as a prescription drug that only women over 18 can purchase.

He was arrested and tried twice: first in December 2006 and again April 2010. Now Truth Ministries reports that "in the past year he has been beaten by prisoners under the watchful eye of prison authorities. As a result he is beginning to lose his eyesight, has what seems to be untreated Inflammatory Bowel Disease, is barely able to speak and has trouble walking." He's also suffering from internal bleeding and a painful skin condition. PRAY for Pastor Irani to be healed AND to be released very soon  To find out how you can help Pastor Abedini, please sign the petition at : https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/take-steps-our-allies-and-un-put-pressure-iranian-government-release-pastor-behnam-irani/7px5JR82

[NOTE: TODAY is my birthday. If you've followed this blog for at the past year, you know that I've decided not to celebrate my BIRTHday but my GENday, which is 3 months from today. HOWEVER, the issue of abortion and the continued senseless destruction of "unwanted" unborn in our country moves me as no other issue today. If YOU want to wish me a "Happy Birthday," then I ask you to do it by reading the following article and then clicking on the link at the end that which will help to very simply send an email to YOUR representatives asking for the needed action. I would be very blessed if you would do that. Thank you. -Stan]

I seldom get hot under the collar on the air. But a recent decision by the Obama administration has got my dander up. ..Last week, the President threw America's parents and their daughters under a bus. And I'm hopping mad about it—and not just because I have a young daughter of my own.

First, a little history: In 2011, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius overruled the Food and Drug Administration's request to make the “Plan B One-Step” drug available to all women and girls without a prescription, no matter their age. Plan B is a so-called emergency contraception drug that its maker admits could “inhibit implantation” of a fertilized egg in the womb. Sebelius agreed with the decision to distribute the drug—but insisted girls must be at least fifteen to purchase Plan B One-Step.

Well, that proved too much for federal judge Edward Korman (who is a Reagan appointee, by the way). In a decision that dripped with contempt for those concerned about the impact of the drug on young girls, Korman removed ALL age restrictions on the sale of the drug. He claimed they were “politically motivated” and “scientifically unjustified.” And to add insult to what will surely be many injuries to America's daughters, the Obama administration has just announced that it will not appeal the judge’s ruling.
Now, if you’re like me, you were somewhere between depressed and outraged in hearing this. My 14-year-old daughter can’t go on a field trip without my permission, but soon she'll be able to legally buy the morning-after pill without my knowing anything about it. Even 11- and 12-year-old girls will be able to pick up Plan B along with their candy bars and lip gloss at the neighborhood drug store.
What's next? Selling abortion drugs in junior high vending machines? (“No way!” you say? Well, they’re already in college vending machines. But maybe I'd better not give them any ideas.)

Even President Obama, the most abortion-minded president we've ever had, said that there ought to be an age limit on this Plan B. As he noted in 2011, the reason Health and Human Services Secretary Sebelius insisted on an age limit was because “she could not be confident that a 10-year-old or an 11-year-old going to a drugstore should be able . . . to buy a medication that potentially, if not used properly, could have an adverse effect.”

But if the President knows this drug is potentially dangerous, why did he abandon the fight to protect our daughters? Frankly, I've known ten-year-olds who haven't mastered the art of putting the lid back on a tube of toothpaste. And yet Judge Korman and President Obama are going to trust these kids to carefully read the instructions on a potentially dangerous drug, and take it properly? Are they kidding?
Plan B will have another destructive impact—and this, too, will harm our daughters. By law, children and younger teenagers cannot consent to sex; if they’re pregnant, it's a case of statutory rape—or worse, violent rape. Making Plan B available to young girls gives sexual predators another way to hide what they’ve done from their victims’ parents and doctors—and the police.

The sad reality is that even if there were an age restriction, teens would do what they already do with the purchase of alcohol: Get somebody older to buy the drugs for them. But we ought to be angry at what an arrogant federal government is teaching our kids. The law is a moral teacher, and it's teaching kids that parents are irrelevant.

You and I live in a time when government is actively undermining the family. We need to fight back. Congress can pass a law insisting that no child under eighteen be allowed access to this drug, and that it be sold only with a doctor's prescription. Please urge your congressman to sponsor a bill to get this done.
But there’s other work to do, and John Stonestreet will talk about that tomorrow on BreakPoint.

Coming to a Vending Machine near You? - The Morning-after Pill: Next Steps
Do you feel like fighting back when the government undermines our families, especially our daughters? Eric tells us we should press for a law which would deny the sale of this drug to anyone under age eighteen and require a prescription for others. You can influence your congressional representative, but to do that you must be active on this issue.

Call or write the office of your representative in the House or Senate (or both). We are providing a link to help you do that (below) with assistance from our sister ministry, Justice Fellowship.

"Hugh Jackman's Spiritual Journey"
-
from www.MastermediaIntl.org

He is an Oscar nominee recognizable for major roles as Jean Valjean in Les Mis and for starring in the X-Men films. He’s an Aussie whose mother abandoned the family when he was eight years old. He’s got 43 film and TV credits listed on Internet Media Data Base (IMDB.com). He was the recent subject of a special feature by Stephen Galloway in The Hollywood Reporter. And he is on a spiritual journey.
Hugh’s family was “deeply religious” in the Church of England and more conservative after accepting Christ under Billy Graham’s ministry. Hugh grew up in the church. “I was so involved with so many things in the church. It was my social group. It was where I met girls. It was sort of my life out of school. Then, around sixteen or seventeen, I started questioning . . .”
Today, he is “not particularly religious,” never prays, but believes in some form of God and afterlife. He meditates twice a day for thirty minutes. PRAY for God and Hugh Jackman to reconnect.

"Artist Says Pentagon Censoring Christian Art," CBNNews.com; June 05, 2013 http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/us/2013/June/Artist-Says-Pentagon-Censoring-Christian-Art/

An artist whose painting was removed from an U.S. Air Force dining hall says the Pentagon is censoring Christian art. Ron Dicianni's painting is called "Blessed are the Peacemakers" and references the scripture Matthew 5:9. It was part of a collection to honor the heroes who responded to the 9-11 terrorist attacks. The painting was removed from Idaho's Mountain Home Air Force Base less than an hour after a complaint from Mikey Weinstein, the founder of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation.

This is the same organization leader called religious proselytizing "a national security threat" in a private meeting with Pentagon officials last April. The artist's son, Grant DiCianni, told Fox News, "On its face, this seems like nothing short of a clear anti-Christian agenda."Grant DiCianni is also president of Tapestry Productions. "It appears that the Air Force and the Pentagon have undertaken a dangerous war to rid the military of anything that points to Christ and that needs to be brought to light," he said.

"A Race for a Sequel to 'The Passion of the Christ,' " Mastermedia International, Posted on Thursday, April 11, 2013 | http://www.mastermediaintl.org/press_release/a-sequel-to-the-passion-of-the-christ/
cross sunsetEver since Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ was viewed by millions and generated hundreds of millions in revenue, there has been a “race” to produce a sequel. After all, The Passion left the story of Jesus with only a brief touch on His rising again.
Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Paul Bond, there is a race to get a film to the screen that will begin where Gibson’s film left off. Mastermedia’s chairman, Larry Poland, has read three screenplays—by four aspirants—that are contenders in the race. All four are pushed by independents that are passionate (no pun intended) about telling the story of the risen Christ, his post-resurrection appearances, and his ascension. One script ends the story with an incredibly compelling portrayal of Pentecost.
Randy LaHaye, grandson of Left Behind author Tim LaHaye, is spearheading The Resurrection, which was rescued from Sony Screen Gems after an early deal with the studio went south. The screenplay, written by veteran Lionel Chetwynd, who has 43 film and TV credits, creates conflict and drama in the story by highlighting interplay between Pilate and Roman soldiers surrounding the biblical events. With a reported $20 million raised for the production, this film has the “inside track” on getting to the screen, according to Bond.

American Trademark Pictures says it has $30 million to produce and commitment for $45 million to release The Resurrection of the Christ, which could be renamed Golgotha. This film was written by Dan Gordon, who wrote Wyatt Earp and The Hurricane. The Messiah, from a nonprofit organization called In Jesus’ Name Productions, covers the death, resurrection and subsequent events through Pentecost. David Wood, owner of Dread Warrior Productions, “a media and funding company,” is pursuing creative funding ideas to advance The Resurrection of Jesus Christ with the goal of having it in theaters in 2015. A fourth screenplay focusing on an apologetics approach to evidence for the resurrection of Jesus has yet to gain traction.

But the best news is that all four projects are backed by committed believers in the Savior who want to tell the true story and have the Risen Lord touch the lives of multitudes.

"Man Up! Men Urged to End Abortion's War on Women," by Paul Strand, CBN News Washington Sr. Correspondent, June 14, 2013 http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/us/2013/June/Man-Up-Men-Urged-to-End-Abortions-War-on-Women/[NOTE This article brings to mind one of the two pro-life bumper stickers I've had on my present car for the roughly 10 years I've owned it. I I've always believed that bumer stickers are like a billboard and have never hesitated to have stickers that say provacative things. My favorite sticker says: "Real Men Do Not Force Women To Abort."]

Women may giet abortions, but without men, there wouldn't be any abortions -- or sex trafficking, or pornography.  These are almost exclusively areas where male users create female victims. Now some men say it's time for males to step up and put an end to these things, to end this war on women.

Paul Cole leads the Christian Men's Network, which specializes in mentoring men. He says many abortions happen because of men who refuse to step up and father the lives they've created.
"They're not becoming real men. They're staying childish," he told CBN News, "narcissistic, selfish, childish men who want their own way regardless of what it costs anyone else."

Get-Out-of-Jail-Free Card? - Brian Fisher, president of Online for Life (www.onlineforlife.org), says abortion is the perfect convenience for such boyish men who desire to satisfy their sexual urges with no danger of commitment. "Abortion is the ultimate get-out-of-jail-free card for men who want to be sexually promiscuous," Fisher stated. Cole pointed out, "The vast majority of abortions are paid for by men. Why is that?  Because they don't want to accept responsibility for what they created."

Fisher points out modern culture and courts have played right into these men's hands by declaring abortion is all about a woman's right to choose and men have no legal right to be involved in that choice. According to Fisher, that means "men can sleep with whoever they want to and if the woman gets pregnant, not only does the man have no responsibility, he has no legal right to have responsibility." But for all the "right to choose" rhetoric, most abortive women feel they have no choice. "More than 60 percent of women are coerced into having an abortion, or are not informed properly," Fisher stated. "So when we talk about this freedom to choose, the reality is there is no freedom to choose. They feel like they have no other choice."

Cole added, "My heart breaks for the women who've been forced to make that decision or have had to make that decision because of the immaturity and childishness and selfishness of a man." So men like Cole and Fisher want to do something about it.

'Man Up and Get Off the Porn' -  In his book, Abortion: the Ultimate Exploitation of Women, Fisher advocates "manning up" to fight abortion. One major way may seem surprising."Get off the porn," Fisher said. The author points to decades of research that show the results of pornography. "Multiple sexual partners, adultery, wrecked marriages, issues with long-term commitment," Fisher stated. "All those things have been extremely well-documented. Well, those are all the seeds of unplanned pregnancy." Cole cites research that shows for every 10 men in the average church, five have a major problem with pornography.

He believes mentoring young people and teaching young men to be sexually pure and responsible can help control this sexual chaos. "We've got to start when young men are 10, 11, 12 years old, and start talking to them about who you are as a man," Cole said. Fisher added, "That could be a courageous father talking to his teenage sons about not only pornography or not only unplanned pregnancy, but abortion and the fact that God has created us to protect life, not to destroy life."

Cole shared how a program tied to his ministry slashed the 33 percent AIDS rate in Uganda. "They began to train young men and women, 11, 12, 13, 14 years old, what it is to be sexually pure, what it is to be married to one person," Cole said. "They began to meet in all the churches, all the schools."
This program introduced all over Uganda is called Glovimo: the GLOry of VIrginity MOvement.
"Today in Uganda, the rate of AIDS is 6.4 percent," Cole pointed out. "It is the only nation in the continent of Africa that has reversed the rate of AIDS."

Online for Life - On another front, the men who organized Fisher's Online for Life scan the Internet for men and women looking online for abortion services.  Then this pro-life group hits those abortion-seekers with ads for pro-life pregnancy centers. "If they're on Yahoo and they're searching for an abortion clinic, we might show up with an ad that's an alternative," Fisher explained.  "And if they click on the ad and they call the pregnancy center that we're working with, now we have an opportunity to speak with somebody who in many cases has already scheduled the abortion."

Fisher says if that person or couple actually comes into the pregnancy center, "they usually have an ultrasound, which ultimately is proof-positive that what is growing inside that mother is a viable human being." This work by Online for Life has saved more than 900 babies over the last two years. Fisher points out places like those pregnancy centers could sure use the help of pro-life men."If a man would just give a few hours a week to talk to the father of an unborn child and say 'Let me help you walk through this. We'll get you through it together and at the end of the day, you're going to be sitting there with a beautiful baby in your arms and it's going to change your life for the better.' That's the kind of man that we need to step up and get in the game," Fisher said.

'Stop Being Passive' - Beyond that, Fisher implores men to not be passive if their relationship faces an unexpected pregnancy and the woman is contemplating an abortion."A passive answer, a non-answer is a 'go get an abortion' answer," Fisher insisted.  "And, unfortunately, many men who presume that that's the supportive answer are in fact, number one, threatening their child with a death sentence." "But, number two, (they're) showing the female in their life they just don't care enough to protect either the woman or the child," he said.

For those men feeling guilt and regret after an abortion, Fisher recommends they talk about it, especially on Web forums like his group's AbortionMemorial.com. That's what a man named Jeffery did, writing to his unborn child via the website.  He talked about paying for the abortion that decades ago had killed that child. "It is now 31 years later," Jeffery wrote. "The hardest part is knowing you felt great pain the moment when they killed you in your mother's womb. You were innocent and totally helpless. I did not protect you. I sacrificed you for my own convenience. The truth is your earthly father failed you." In his book, Fisher talks about a friend of his whose sexual antics led to three abortions before he became a Christian, repented and married.

But then, after having one child, his wife told him she was aborting their second child no matter what he said.
"He had no legal recourse, was unable to have an attorney help him, had no option," Fisher said of his friend. "And she aborted the second child, and so he for years has dealt with the suffering and grief, not only of the first three abortions that he was responsible for, but for the one in a marital context that he had absolutely no ability to stop." The abortion ended up wrecking their marriage and they ultimately divorced.

Swaying the Culture - Fisher told CBN News every man or woman who regrets the abortions in their lives needs to shout out about it. He said, "If we can collect tens of thousands of stories from men and women who say 'Look, if I had to do this over again, I never would have aborted my child,' that speaks to the culture." He believes the weight of all that regret and sorrow could sway the nation. Meanwhile, men's ministries like Cole's Christian Men's Network are allying themselves with activist groups battling sexual trafficking, pornography and abortion.

Both Cole and Fisher exhort men to grow up, man up and throw themselves into the fight -- because only men can end this war on women, and because one more baby is being aborted every 25 seconds."We cannot sit by the TV, drinking our beer, watching sports, thinking that this is okay," Fisher admonished. "It's not okay."
