NEWS /PRAYER ALERT! - Ukraine Accuses Russia of 'Invasion, Occupation'- By George Thomas, Friday, February 28, 2014; http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/world/2014/February/Ukraine-Accuses-Russia-of-Invasion-Occupation-/ - SIMFEROPOL, Ukraine -- Russian troops now control an airport near their naval base in Sevastopol, Ukraine. Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov is calling the siege a "military invasion and occupation." "It is in violation of all international treaties and norms," he charged. "This is a direct provocation to armed bloodshed on the territory of a sovereign state."... [Let's be in prayer as the Ukraine is facing an ever increasing threat of civil war. Pray esp. for beievers to be submitted to and guided by the Holy Spirit in how to BE JESUS during these turbulent times. May many who are and will encounter great suffering as a result of this continuing conflict find their hope and strength in Jesus by coming to faith in Him. - Stan]
NEWS/PRAYER ALERT! Divided Country: Ukrainians Count the Cost of Change - By George Thomas, February 25, 2014;http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/world/2014/February/Ukrainians-Facing-Uncertain-Future/ KIEV, Ukraine
NEWS/PRAYER ALERT! "Ukraine President Becomes Fugitive from Justice "- By George Thomas, Monday, February 24, 2014; http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/world/2014/February/Opposition-Takes-Presidency-in-Divided-Ukraine/  KIEV, Ukraine -- The former president of Ukraine is a fugitive from justice Monday. The country's interim government issued an arrest warrant for Viktor Yanukovich after the mass killings of civilians last week. Yanukovch fled the capital Saturday and reportedly is in hiding in eastern Ukraine. Meanwhile, Ukrainians are mourning the loss of more than 100 people killed in clashes between riot police and protesters. That sadness is settling over a country facing dramatic political changes...On Saturday, Ukraine's parliament stunned the nation by voting overwhelmingly to impeach Yanukovych. Hours later, members of parliament picked Oleksandr Turchynov, a prominent evangelical Christian, as interim president until new elections in May. "Christians were praying on Independence Square," Pastor Kaluzhny said. "We were praying in our churches. People around the world were praying for us, and God did a miracle! Ukraine is a new country." What happens next is uncertain.
As the Lord leads, please pray:
-That the turmoil in Ukraine will be resolved
-That the leaders of Ukraine will be able to peacefully resolve their impasse
-Safety for those trapped by the violence in the nation

Praying for Oscar Night
- [from MasterMediaIntl.org] [AS I SEE IT: 1) Would't it be great to have the Church to PRAY (during worship this or any Sunday morning) for God to bring spiritual awakening to the movie industry in light of the often huge NEGATIVE impact it has on our culture, and even on Christians?; 2) Be sure to check out yesterday's post #806 that looked at the Oscar nominated movie for best picture about slavery and how the nature of slavery parallels the horrors of abortion; and 3) I invite you to sign up for the media leader prayer calender (that I've used for many years now) which will give you daily media leaders and cultural influencers (including actors, muscians, TV programs making great impact on people. Go to http://www.mastermediaintl.org/resources/  - Stan]

Here are some specific suggestions. Join us in prayer!

For whom should we pray?

Pray for all the nominees and other celebrities and dignitaries gathered for the Academy Awards show and for all the parties before and after the "main event."

Pray for all the members of the Academy , whose votes determine the winners of this year's awards.  (Many are past winners and nominees and are still active in some media industry.)

Pray for all the "people behind the scenes" of every nominee: spouses and partners and families, agents, managers, attorneys, assistants, drivers and others.

Pray for all those who produce the Oscars event: producers, directors, performers, musicians, stage hands, sound and lighting personnel, security, caterers and a host of other workers, down to the those who sweep the floors and turn off the lights.

Pray for celebrities who come to your mind, even if they are not at this event.

Pray for the heads of the media companies, the corporate leaders, the "suits," the gate-keepers, and the decision-makers who run the businesses behind the scenes of all media.

Pray for Christians in media, that their influence for good in their profession and for the Gospel will increase.

For what should we pray?

PRAY for God to move mightily in the life of each person mentioned above . . . that they would know Him, or know Him more deeply. [Pray that none would be blinded by their pride, ambition, wealth, fame, influence, and success that they do not recognize their spiritual need, their need for the Savior; that none would be deceived by the world's false ideas or a hardened heart toward the gospel of Jesus but would be made open to fully consider His truth claims.]

PRAY for a great spiritual awakening in all of GLOBAL media . . . that soon God would be revealed and honored in media like never before.

May it happen . . . starting this Sunday . . . starting in Hollywood . . . because God answers prayers!

IN REGARDS TO THE MOVIE "SON OF GOD" which opened this weekend. [My hope is to take some non-Christians with me when I finally do go and see it. I hope you will do the same. - Stan]

Popcorn vs. Preaching - What the ‘Son of God’ Movie Is (and Isn’t)By: Eric Metaxas, Breakpoint.org: February 28, 2014; http://www.breakpoint.org/bpcommentaries/breakpoint-commentaries-archive/entry/13/24651?spMailingID=8059661&spUserID=MTMyMjM2ODE5OQS2&spJobID=122310735&spReportId=MTIyMzEwNzM1S0
....“We should have no expectation that God will accomplish through a film what he has only promised to accomplish through preaching [of] the Gospel.”So definitely go and see the movie, definitely bring your friends, and definitely use it to start conversations about the claims of Jesus and the gospels. But don’t expect Hollywood to do the heavy-lifting when it comes to evangelism. The instructions the real Son of God left us were to “make disciples”—not just to pack theaters."

What do Jesus’ claims to be the God/the Son of God force us to decide about Him?

-How accurately were the gospels adapted in this film?

-What does the humility in which Jesus and His Disciples lived during His ministry teach us about what it means to follow Christ?

-What about the contrast between Jesus’ Kingdom and the kingdoms of the world—like the Romans and the Jewish authorities? How are we to differentiate between the two?

-What drove Judas to betray Jesus? Is the film’s explanation believable/scriptural?

-Does this film augment or change gospel accounts in order to appeal to contemporary audiences? In which ways?

-Jesus was a famous rabbi during His ministry, yet He took the time to interact specifically with individuals. What do these interactions teach us about His character?

-The Great Commission in this film is given to a mere handful of Jesus’ closest followers. Did you imagine it differently? Does this change your perspective?

-Jesus said “my Kingdom is not of this world,” yet He worked and ministered in this world, making His invisible Kingdom visible. What does that mean to you, in your life?
